ERODE TO COIMBATORE On board Bangalore to Ernakulam intercity express it took close to 90 minutes & the only reason to travel on this train was it was hauled by diesel locomotive WDP4D

The EMD GT46PAC or WDP4 is a passenger-hauling diesel-electric locomotive with AC electric transmission designed by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and built by both GM-EMD and under license by Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) of Varanasi, India for Indian Railways as the classes WDP4, WDP4B and WDP4D.The GT46PAC is a passenger version of the previous Indian Railways EMD GT46MAC freight locomotive. The locomotive has a 16-cylinder 710G3B diesel engine and is one of the fastest diesel-electric locomotives in service in Indian Railways
The final alterations to the GT46PAC came in the form of the WDP-4D. The locomotive is the most distinctively identifiable of the three thanks to the addition of a second cab at the long hood end of the locomotive. Due to the heat generated from the radiator at the second cab end of the locomotive, DLW had to install air conditioning to protect both the electrical components and the loco-pilot from the high temperatures. The existing features from WDP-4B have been carried forward to this class and it exclusively features the widened cab profile. The loco features a completely different desk control stand, provided by Medha with digital display screens allowing for remote fault diagnostics. Many locos also have GSM-R based transmission antennae to transmit critical loco info for use by maintenance and signalling staff. It features electro-pneumatic microprocessor based control adapted from the WDP-4B and brake system equipment of KNORR/NYAB CCB type.
About Train:
In the railway budget of the year 1997-98, a plan was proposed to introduce a superfast train between Coimbatore and Bangalore. On 15 April 1998, Bangalore-Coimbatore Intercity Express train was inaugurated as Train no: 2677. In the year 2008, the service was extended till Ernakulam as Train no: 12677 after few temporary runs.
On 13 February 2015, the train derailed on its onward journey to Ernakulam from Bangalore, leading to 10 deaths and injuring 150 people.
This train runs daily each way, as Train no: 12677 (Ernakulam Exp) departing Bangalore City Junction at 06:15 hrs and reaching Ernakulam Junction at 16:55 hrs and Train no: 12678 (Bangalore Exp) departing Ernakulam Junction at 09:10 hrs and reaching Bangalore City Junction at 19:50 hrs. It covers a distance of 587 kilometres (365 mi) in each direction and the journey duration is about 10 hours and 40 minutes. The rake of the train usually contains 4 unreserved coaches, 11 second sitting coaches, 2 AC chair car coaches, a pantry car, a high-capacity parcel van, and 2 SLR cars, making a total of 21 coaches.
