Lucky me I saw him live in Manchester in june 1966 at the Free Trade Hall. I went there with a girl who I probably ignored being totally immersed in Errolls out of this world music. I hope they have provided a Steinway for him up there in heaven. If so, lucky angels

No one compares, yes i agree, but... have a look here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHzWXnytitZ2hMk Eugene CICERO (now dead) is not as high sensibility than Erroll, but there is a very good approach, more "mecanic", but interesting.

I often come back to this clip of my favourite jazz pianist, Erroll Louis Garner 15.6.21- 2.1.1977. Guaranteed to lift the spirits if you are feeling down. The little man was a genius and died far too soon. Bass player Eddie Calhoun (Nov 1921 - Jan 1994 ) and drummer Kelly Martin (1914- ?) do a great job keeping up with him. Erroll Garner was a unique talent and he couldn't read music. Always a joy to hear.

You were raised well, sir. My mother (mum, as you say in the UK) had one of the two discs from the 1958 "Paris Impressions" set. The central library in downtown Rochester, had Garner and other jazz greats in the collection, including my ultimate fave "Ella & Basie" from 1963.

This cultured, quite sophisticated presentation, is just superb to hear, and for thinking about the class of jazz piano. Errol and Art Tatum had such a touch, to defy everything from gravity to oblivion, in getting out of the deadness of a lone piano such qualities as nobody has done. This makes us smile as if afflicted, invaded.

Thank you SO much for posting this! Let’s face it… The brilliant genius of Art Tatum 🏆 …… Likewise, Oscar Peterson ⭐️ … The list goes on and on and on… But Erroll Garner… Well… I for one just can’t find words. The magic of his level of Genius … his UNFATHOMABLE skill … The JOY … Erroll Garner FOREVER !!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ When I say that I love him as much as I love James Cagney… As much as I love Shakespeare… Then… Well… If there is a God… ( & I personally rather just worship our old friend, Nature): then: ERROLL GARNER shines / shone forth as One of the gods greatest creations in all eternity. - The End! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 🎹. Thanks, Mysterious Marvel Erroll, for all you gave us!

Oscar peterson once said: he can’t read music! I say: he can improvise whatever without looking at the piano smiling at the people around …and no one would be able to follow him. At the end you always feel good. The real vaccine :)
