ERROR FOUND ! M278 startup Rattle W218 M157 Mercedes

This Rattle comes up in summer at cold start after standing some hours.....right bank. But it seems NOT to be the Chain.... I think it's the camshaft adjuster. Oil: 0w30. What do you think.?
Solution: One Camshaft adjuster was broken. Chenged all 4 Camshaft Adjusters. No Noise anymore. :-) I recommend to change the Chain in the same procedure.

Hi, only Material ist round about 3k. The camshaft adjusters are alone about 1.2k for the 4 pieces. With labor you have to count with about 5k. If you find a office which have experience I think you can get down to about 3.5k complete.

@@Phuong_Nguyen_ yes. The problem is a lock pin in the adjusters. There is a hole that whorn out. When starting at the time there is no oil pressure the adjuster beats from side to side causing this sound when the lock-pin slides out of the hole.

@@cartaste4960 man 5k is a lot. I don’t have the problem yet but I hope I never do. I do from time to time get a rattle from my tensioner but that’s a whole different rattle sound and problem.

I highly doubt it’s always a cam adjuster. Check your wastegate on the turbo . Most likely a wastegate turbo not a cam adjuster .

My car has similar noise on cold start. You changed all 4 camshaft or only part

@@shalvaozbetelashvili4178 I changed all 4. But faulty was only one. Because of the big repair i decided to renew all 4 because the other 3 has the same mileage. I think sooner or later one of the other would beginn to fail ,too. The reason for this noises is the Lockpin in the adjuster. The hole where the lockpin should lock wash out with time.

@@shalvaozbetelashvili4178 hi no prob. My had about 110.000km when I repaired it. Some people say you can drive long time with this noise. But I was afraid that something will happen. I renewed everything from the chain to tensioners. Look when the heart is open, better renew everything. The costs for chain and Co. Are no problem. But the camshaft adjusters are really expensive.
