Great topic! First off I’m a type collector with many angles. Started collecting small size than jumped to putting together a collection of all $2 Federal issued in the 20th century. That led to a George Washington type collection of the different denominations he has been on. I completed a large size $1 and $2 type set. I have all the non star small size signature combinations for $1 and $2 and trying to complete $5 for only the Minneapolis Federal Reserve and the Silver Certs, LTN, GOLD cert, FRBN AND National (only Minnesota). I have a type set for all denominations, up to $100 for all small size. I’ve gotten into Obsoletes putting together two sets one from each of the lower 48 states and US presidents on Obsoletes - will never complete but one collection became another. I’m all over the place and did a World banknote getting one note equivalent to $1 USD or that countries lowest paper denomination- really fun and affordable and you keep the collection going by updating when a country puts out a new note. Long answer to a great question. Be craeative!

I have a hard time answering the question, "What do you collect?" too. I agree currency collecting is a deep, wide and wonderful rabbit hole. Right now, I am into large star notes and large size nationals. I have also collected a few fancy serial numbers, but I am putting that on hold for now. Great video for getting discussions going in the community. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 👍

It started off with Nationals from my home town and has now grown to all types and denominations for my hometown county in NY.

Small size legal tender notes. Going for a complete FR# collection minus of course a few star notes that are out of most everyone’s budget.

I collect mostly what I can pull from circulation. However, I also have a type+ collection going. I have pretty much every Series of $1 from Series 1934 to Series 2021. Also, have a few Large Sized ones, a type set of small sized Legal Tender Notes from the Series 1928 $1 to Series 1966 $100, including one of each Series $2 for 1953 and 1963. Have a few WWII Emergency Currency, a few M.P.Cs, some world currency, and other interesting notes.

I started off collecting national currency, but I have broadened my search (Chief, Bison, Black Eagle and high denomination).

I’ve been collecting coins for a lifetime. Over the past 2 years I’ve built up a decent star note collection. I’m starting my Confederate collection, along with a small assortment of obsolete US bank notes. This is a rabbit hole I’m not sure I’m ready to jump into just yet, as you know with so many types of notes to collect it’s going be hard to stay focused.

When I first started collecting paper currency. I didn't really have a goal as too what I wanted to collect. first it was silver certificates and united states notes. then it was gold certificates and civil war currency from the southern states. now i mainly just collect Large and Small size National banknotes from my home state of Pennsylvania. I will still hunt for the other banknotes on this list. but it'll mostly be the gold certificates and Southern currency. If I can get them at a good price.

I'm in my 80s, have cancer , and don't get around much. After years of coin collecting, I've started on currency. I love history, so large size notes are a natural draw, and I have added some cheaper ones. I also have been buying the 1928 through 1935 $1 silver certificates, realizing I can't afford them all. Bought a couple Confederates and misc. If it's in front of me, I like it, and I've got cash, I'll probably buy it.

I try and collect just about anything but I am more focused on collecting obsoletes or nationals from my home state (Nebraska) but it became pretty expensive after getting the few common notes as a lot of them jump up in price pretty quick lol
