Yes, this little guy is so adorable and I would love to feed it but I have so many questions. Why were you not letting his Mom feed him? Why does his Mom have a leash around her leg. Are these birds that cannot be returned to the wild?

Hello Kirsten, I am a falconer and breeder (see Andreas Neumann Falknerei.de) of hawks. The leather straps on the feet of the adult bird indicate that the mother is not only a breeding bird but also a hunting bird. I'll go hunting for her in the fall. Most of the bred young birds are given to other falconers. Young birds that are to be released into the wild must be raised exclusively by their parents from the 10th day of life so that they are later shaped in their own way and then also mate with their own kind. I also breed mismatched raptors using artificial insemination on a voluntary basis. For this reason, I can also feed them at the beginning, because the mother hawk sees me as a partner. @@andreasneumann7014 thanks for enlightening me. I love watching videos about birds and their behavior and yours popped up and you were feeding the smallest of 3 or 4 clutch. I always want to feed the smallest because they have the hardest time in life.
