1:23:20 friendship was in Gen 1. Pikachu used it to display how it felt about the player. Fun run!

Only in yellow, and there it was not really Pikachu's friendship, it was more like collective friendship of all Pikachu's with the same original trainer ID. What this means is you could restart red/blue over and over again until you get the same trainer ID, then trade a bunch of pikachu's over to yellow. Then in that yellow all the pikachu's have the same shared happiness(because the game can't tell them apart), this means even if you named them all differently and only leveled up/used the traded pikachu's your companion Pikachu would still gain happiness. Unfortunately the game stops checking after it finds the first matching Pikachu if you battle a gym leader or Elite Four member, so you can't gain 6 times the bonus friendship for that.

@ aye yellow is gen 1. It was also used to get the bulbasaur.
