Seeing this stove takes me back to my days of being in the U.S. Army in Germany in the 80's. The German Bundeswehr always carried these in their kit so I started doing it too. Thanks so much.

This is the only stove I have taken to the woods with me for the last decade. It has never let me down. I even sometimes use it at home when I am outside to make my tea.

love these little stoves...they aren't like some stove that you can only use one sourece of fuel, these little stove work yes with the fuel tabs, but I have use an empty tuna can and alcohol, the small cans of sterno, foliage debree, newspaper...I have used these for years and for 10 or 12 bucks and the fuel tabs you can't beat them and they last for ever! no you can't cook a 12 course meal, but you can have an egg and maybe toast with your coffee, or a ramon to keep you warm.

Great lil stove and highly efficient. I sometimes use an additional windscreen in very windy conditions. Coughlan's fuel tabs also work. I take a facial round that I have placed a smudge of petroleum jelly, sit 2 of their round fuel tabs on their sides, fluffing up the round so it cradles the tabs. Then I take some heavy duty aluminum foil that have cut into a 2X2" square and place it in the middle of my palm. I place the round holding the fuel tabs and while cupping my fingers around it, push down with my other thumb. I place the whole thing into the esbit stove and light it with my ferro rod. The foil protects the lil stove's insides and also seems to help direct the flames' upwards. I have found that the tabs still have plenty of life left in them when boiling 8 ounces of water(I separate my freeze dried meals into 2 entrees), so I'll blow out the remaining and relight them as fire starters or to keep cooked food warm. The Coughlans brand is cheaper than esbit and bluete tabs. The lil stove can also cook food in foil. I take a metal hanger, shape it into a rectangular shape with 1 end open. I lay this across my stove so it can hold my foil pack. You can use the tabs, but I prefer charcoal; 2 or 3 broken up bricks(crumbled up in a double sheet HD aluminum foil with curled up sides to hold the fuel and plenty of added holes in the bottom to provide draft)and then I have popsicle sticks I use as kindling, to restoke the fire. It's remarkable how this lil stove can cook virtually anything you have a mind to put on it. Nice vid. ATB, Jb.

Nice vid, thanks. You can blow out the fuel and use it again. The used portion can be a great little fire starter too. Hey, you can warm up your water by placing the bottle in a pocket close to your body while hiking-this will lessen boil time. Sometimes I'll put black electrical tape on my water bottle and carry it outside my pack and the bottle gets warmer in the sun. ATB, Jb.

Thanks for the vid on the Esbit stove. Actually boiled the water, huh? I guess it’s dependent on variables, such as being outside, etc I realize this is years after your post but the product hasn’t changed. Btw, I thought I was the only one using coffee bags( getting hard to find in markets) while camping. Easy to store, easy to use, no mess to clean up and makes pretty good brew.

I have had one of these for 5o years and not once have tried it. I ran out of pellets due to someone else using it and one video while testing all kinds of backpacking stoves this fellow stood two tabs on the side which increased the heat and rapidity of boiling or frying in a pan or pot, which I thought was great. one thing I looked on Ebay for those pellets and could believe they asked for $16. now I hope this was a case and NOT one box!!

Ebay is not always the best place to buy stuff. Amazon has 12 of the tablets used in this video for $8.79 at the time I am posting. You can often get the tablets on sale for far less than that at outdoor or big box stores. I was able to buy a french variant of the tablets on ebay for 1 euro + $3 shipping to the US including an emergency stove, water purification tablets, and matches.

great vid. i have a similar stove, however im amazed that you didnt scorch your hard wood table. lol. i think that it would burn it if there had been a wind or also the quick burning trioxane fuel tabs.

Ray Ferrer It's one of the three small sizes. The large size is over 1.5 inches tall closed and has three cooking positions.

Small. Tip: the large ones offer no real advantage over the small ones. However, Esbit does make a larger fuel tab for the larger stoves.
