Unbelievably, this song is 50 years old. Yes, 50! It held up amazingly well. I only heard this song for the first time a few months ago. But it doesn't sound dated to me. And I remember the music of 1970. Few songs from that year still sound as good and as timeless as this song does.

I remember my 14 year old sister demanding that my Dad buy our first TV just before the eurovision in 1970 because she was sure Dana would win and did not want to be humiliated again that year by asking to watch the eurovision at the neighbours house. So at about 6pm on the Saturday of the eurovision the TV guy arrived with a black and white PYE tv and began installing it. There was a lot of banging going on in the attic as he installed the aerial and eventually got it going by about 7pm. The eurovision was to begin at 8pm so just in time. My Dad said if Dana did not win the TV was going straight back to the shop on the following Monday. So I was pulling my hair out during the voting as a Dana loss meant no more tv for us. Luckily Dana did win so we got to keep the tv which was good because I was as dumb as a rock about the outside world until that TV educated me. £80 it cost and we paid by installments - took two years to pay it off. Then we rented TV's after that one broke down for good but that PYE lasted about 10 years.

Dana is from the island of Ireland with no connections to the U.K. other than she was born in the part of Ireland robbed by the British. She is Irish out and out. Johnny Logan is an Australian born Irish singer. I guess Freddie Mercury was also Tanzanian then and shouldn't be referred to as British.

Everyone here be like "This song couldn't stand a chance in Eurovision 2021" and yes, it probably couldn't. Because it's like fifty years old, and times were different back then. It's a beautiful song, with amazing vocals. But only because it's old and beautiful, doesn't mean that new things aren't good. Maybe some new song aren't for everyone, but there is something definetly for everyone in the contest, no matter in which year. The new entries tend to be on a bigger range of variety, they aren't all of the same genre or style. Again, that doesn't mean that it's bad. Eurovision originally served one purpose: Uniting a continent after war in a fun contest and celebrating cuture as it is. And from my perspective, it still serves that perfectly. If you don't like modern music, you don't have to listen to it. Nobody forces you. But you don't have to insult the entirety of modern music just because you like an old song better? Going back to the "This would never succeed in Eurovision 2021" thing, have you ever listened to this years songs? There are a few really beautiful songs, dangit. Not everything modern is bad just because old things were good.
