The guy in the picture was Udo Jürgens. Before Conchita won he was the first and only Eurovision winner for Austria back in 1966. Sadly, in December 2014, he passed away due to a heart failure. the violinist played the song he won with called Merci, Chérie.

Do people really think that the orchestra was really there paying live?? That was just the LED screen, and then they show it with a diferent angle at 4:18, but that was pre recorded. and the hosts were clearly doing a playback. Besides that, it was a good opening act. Keep up with the videos man.

The violin player’s first playing an excerpt from the first Austrian winner Udo Jürgens (whose picture shows up on the screen) and his song “Merci cherie” which won in 1966. This is a great opening song. Personally I could do without the rap, but overall it’s great.

Conchita was in the green room interacting with all the acts during the show :) As you've just seen, 2015 was an amazing year with some of the best acts in recent years. But even aside from the entries, one of the strongest moments of 2015 for me was during the voting. Polina Gagarina from Russia was doing really well (you'll remember that she ended in second place) and the crowd was very audibly booing her whenever Russia got points or when they showed her face. Polina gets emotional easily. She was crying during both her performances because she really felt the message of her song. Conchita sat down with her and interviewed her, telling her that she did a great job and that she deserved to do well. And she made the audience give Polina a round of applause. It really stood out to me as a winner's moment because Eurovision is about putting politics aside and uniting. So even though I already respected Conchita 100%, this moment made me respect her 1000%. It proved that for her, Building Bridges is not just a song or a catchy slogan, but a lifestyle.

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest had so many great songs but the show itself (apart from the opening act) was rather lame, the hostesses were stiff and unfunny. The only good shows host-wise were Sweden (Petra Mede by herself and later together with Mans Zelmerlöw) and Germany (Stefan Raab & Anke Engelke). And nothing can top Germany's opening act in 2011!

To put the oddly dressed crown in perspective, this is the land of Beethoven. They are all character intepretations of his music and are dressed in the rather rough stylings of his day, not exact, but more of a characature of it, almost in jest. The 3 hosts conducted interviews in multiple languages, and were rather entertaining. Not at the Petra Mede level but better than average.
