As a Norwegian, I would say that this is one of the big Scandinavian classics of music in general. I actually thought it was a bit older. Umm yeah keep reaching for the stars you say to one of the biggest Scandinavian stars there is haha. She has released over 20 albums, her first one was in the early 80s and it topped the charts in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. She still sings now, she's in her 50s.

Well, Carola was for a long time the Swedish 'Miss Eurovision', she won the Swedish MelFest 3 times, in 1983 she was very young - came 3rd at ESC, she won ESC with this whirwind 1991, and in 2006 her entry came in 5th at ESC.

I love your new intro graphic. You should also check Carola’s other 2 entries: 1983’s “Framling” which finished 3rd, and 2006’s “Invincible” which finished 5th. The top 4 in ‘91 was good. France finished 2nd but it was technically a tie. Based on a tiebreaker, Sweden won. In the new rules, France would have won. Israel’s entry was a lot of fun. And Spain had a great ballad. Too bad Italy was not a great host that year. 😬

I like this song but it's not my favourite Carola entry - I prefer Främling. And this song is definitely typical of Swedish entries running from the 80's to mid-2000's especially. It's a type of music-style called schlager which Sweden was famous for sending to the contest even when it fell out of mainstream popularity. In Sweden the national pre-selection Melodifestivalen is still referred to as Schlagerfestivalen among the people, and there's a belief there that only certain types of music belong at Eurovision. It's why Sweden tends to send uptempo music to the contest even today, even though it tends to be more contemporary.

It was hosted in Rome that year because of Toto Cutugno's win in 1990, to date the last time Italy hosted. It was the 3rd of out Sweden's 6 wins and the last time they did so with a song in Swedish. Personally this is my favourite Swedish entry after 2015 and maybe 2008. Carola also participated in 1983 finishing 3rd and in 2006 finishing 5th.

We had a tie with Sweden and France that year. By the current rules France would have won since it got points from one more country than Sweden. Israel was also super close.

Both got 12 points from four countries, But sweden got 10 points from five countries, while France got 10 points from only two other countries. 17 countries gave points to Sweden, 18 to France. I thought the number of placements as 1-2-3 (Sweden 11 countries; France 9 countries) was more important than total number of countries? Has that changed?

Carola has represented Sweden 3 times in ESC. 1983 with Främling (Stranger), 1991 with this song that she won with (the title in English would be Cought by a Hurricane) and 2006 with Evighet (in ESC she actually sang in English, so she translated her song to Invincible, even though evighet actually means eternity, but invincible works better with the song in English). She is still one of our biggest artists here in Sweden. =)

one of the most professional and polished performances ever, i'd say. Boppy, exciting song, great dancers. It was a terrific entry and a good winner, though Duo Datz, "Kan," from the same year is definitely Top 5 of my all-time favorite ESC songs (up there with Sweden 2015, Portugal 2017, and Norway 1995) so i'm partial to another, but Sweden is still my overall favorite country in the ESC :) Hey so, Asia is supposedly getting its own "-Vision Song Contest" later this year. You should react right away to the French entry of that same year to have a comparison. Both songs got the same amount of points and both are completely different styles ob music. Carola had an energetic mainstream pop song while Amina had an ethno-style sophisticated piece of art. When I was a kid I was of course pro Carola but I grew to appreciate the French entry more and more as I got older. I'm pretty sure if there had been televoting that year there wouldn't have been a tie and Carola would have won.

She's quite big here in Sweden and are quite often included in different music programmes. She has an holier than thou aura around her and she also comes off like a bully to me - like she knows she's good and no one else matters. She might be the sweetest person out there, I havent met her in person, but my own opinion about her is that I can't stand her, she's simply too much. I think she's a person that you either hate or love.

Carola is a huge celebrity in Sweden, I think she's quite humble considering. People who have issues with Carola tend to have issues with her religious leanings (like they do with Tom Cruise), I've never met someone who has an issue with her otherwise, so this is a first. She's generally quite liked in Sweden in my experience. Unless schlager-haters hate her for her relation to the genre, that I can see. :D

Mie R I met her after a consert she took part in, she was a guest perforning artist in a group that went around in Norway, the rest were Norwegians, singing popular music from the 50s and the 60s. Amongst other songs she sang «Love me tender» by Elvis. One of the regular artists was Tor Endresen (Norway Eurovision 1997).
