AGREE! Morris was the brain behind all this! And they made it! These guys had months to prepare, and surely they calculated the SF bay waters/tides etc..I personally think they had someone on the outside who picked them up in a boat about 400-500 M away from the island.

Adam has addressed that a few times and I think the part where they argue over the overlap length is more why they broke up. They always had the same goal it was just more of how they went about getting to it was the issue. Adam mentioned that they worked together really well and they had very similar minds he talks about how they could assemble something under water and communicate only through hand signs and do excellent work. They just were often not using the same scope to look at the target.

@@goblin5030 Which makes me a little sad to hear, but I also think a working relationship like that is very hard to come by, and I believe the show (and themselves) benefitted from it.

@maxdecphoenix
@maxdecphoenix 4 жыл бұрын
@@thetotalitarianturtle3755at the end of this episode, the narrator mentions that the FBI files claim that 'an oar' was found on Angel Island, not the raft (not saying that hasn't been updated, I don't know, just saying that's the information they had at the time). And tidal testing showed that a back-pressure tide would carry anything from the north shore of the Marion Headlands directly to Angel Island. So basically, if the escapees dumped their raft and oars at the headlands, it would have been carried to Angel Island. I wish they'd have shown this with the tide model.

The raft was made from plans they found in a Popular Mechanics magazine at the prison - surprised this path not shown (maybe the show can’t mention “Popular Mechanics”). As commented in part 1 they didn’t have to be silent if they did it during the day when they had permission to be cleaning the cell roofs.

I think the raft from raincoats idea was a decoy for their real escape plan. They probably hid on the island when the guards thought they escaped with raft and hid themselves aboard a provision ship when it finally blew over.

Of course you would make your heading towards Angel Island! IF you make it there, GREAT! If the tide pulls you west and south, you'd end up as far north as possible on the north side of the bridge. Aim for the north side of the bridge, and you'll go out to sea. These guys were criminals. However, as a human you somehow feel compelled to route for them getting out. It's almost like The Running Man.

Has to be said, Frank Morris was a good looking guy. Taking nothing away from them though, remember that some British POWs in Colditz managed to build a damn plane! They erected a false wall in the attic and were working behind it when the Germans came to inspect the attic, A guard tapped on the wall, found nothing wrong with it despite the fact that it was made of painted bedsheets, and went on his way. The only reason they didn't launch it was because the Yanks liberated the camp before they were ready to go. Always like to think what the Germans must have felt when they were shown the glider. "Look Fritz, we built a plane and were about to fly our of your "escape-proof" prison." "But zis voz against ze rules!" "Yeah, we had a meeting about that..."

Wait. I justcrelaized this. Jamie and Adam together on the raft is just barely a fit. Now, I know that they are somewhat bigger but not by a whole lot so maybe 3 people couldve fit on the raft but the escapees were originally planning for 4 men to fit on the raft. But the raft only seems to be able to fit 3 so I think the measurements are just wrong
