Lately, I have been feeling a lot of shame for some of our politicians. Those who talk about energy prices more than about peace. Those who gave up on Ukraine on day 1 of the war. Those who oppose speed limits or car free sundays to reduce oil and gas imports out of pure egoism. Those who have used empty words to protect their reputation, but did not move a finger when it came to actually helping. We have lost contact with what really matters. With you, the people of Ukraine, the people in this video, the people here in the comments. It just makes me speechless. But after watching this video I felt something else. I felt compassion. I felt the emptiness in people's hearts, that these bombs leave behind. The constantly repeating echo of trauma. The unbearable silence that follows the gunfire. Feeling overrun by the incomprehensible, surreal world of death and destruction. Pain. Helplessness. The faint hope, that there will be a save haven, somewhere. We, the rest of the world, need to be that haven. It doesn't matter if we write numbers, letters or hieroglyphs on the displays at our gas stations. What matters is you, the people of Ukraine. I saw documentaries on that as well. Russian separatists fighting against Ukraine militia/soldiers. The problem there is, it wasn't broadcast to the whole world through the news. That's why there probably wasn't an outcry for those atrocities. It also was as dramatic, yes a couple thousand civilians died as did soldiers and separatists. The scale of damage and death was nowhere near this though. Doesn't make it any less sad and tragic. It's just that people are paying attention to what's happening now.

I can only imagine what my great grandfather experienced in the opening days in WW2. He was later taken by the Russians from Poland after he got separated from his comrades in the Underground Army (Armia Krajowa) and deported to Siberia. He was released at the end of the war but the damage to him was done. He remained a drunk for the rest of his life. The things he saw destroyed him. The Russian government's imperialistic mentality remains the same as before and hasn't changed.

I encourage people to read the article written March 22 by Mistyslav Chernov of AP News, it gives great insight into the conflict situation in Mariupol. Chernov's team was likely the last group of journalists operating in Russian-occupied Mariupol. Mistyslav has won many awards for journalism, including the Livingston Award, Rory Peck Award, and various Royal Television Society (RTS) awards. Chernov has also been wounded several times while working in conflict zones, and his stoicism comes to light once again.

As an American I am ashamed that my government has not helped the people of Mariupol. Sending anti-ship missiles would have stop the bombardments from the Russian ships..But my government did not help. Giving the Ukraines the tanks they have been begging for would allow Ukraine to break the siege of Mariupol, but again we have been to timid to help women and children. The switchblade 600 drones if we gave those to Ukraine by the thousand could help, instesad we gave a measly 100 of the swithblade 100s which could no blow up even a jeep.

NATO has been doing mainly peace keeping, save for Yugoslavia, where they had to stop the genocide There hasn't been intentional shelling if civilians in ANY of those countries by the west. Russia on the other hand has almost exclusively hit civilian targets in Ukraine and blocked evacuations. That's a totally different thing. Don't try to compare apple's with oranges, Sergei. Russia is a war criminal here, right next to what Hitler did back in a day.
