Channel 4's coverage of Ukraine has been outstanding - Paraic O'Brien's in particular. It sounds almost tastless to talk of such things - given the horrors that are still unfolding - but he really should receive some prestigious journalism awards for his work in Ukraine. His reporting is always so humane but unsentimental. He allows people to speak with their own voices as much as he can, affording them dignity and respect. His tribute here, to the passing of this much-loved teacher, is very moving and conveys his quiet compassion. How many journalists would have even bothered to follow up on their earlier story, to check how she was faring? Don't ever leave C4 Mr O'Brien. Victory to Ukraine!
@captbloodbeard
@captbloodbeard 2 жыл бұрын
You really hit the nail on the head about his reporting style. As someone who is used to American journalism where personal sentiments seem to be constantly interjected, reporters telling you how to feel, Paraic's "quiet compassion" does heighten the impact of the people's words, allowing the viewer the space to truly digest the story themselves.

Russia launched a special operation in Ukraine to eliminate nationalists and fascists who are supported by the Ukrainian government. They came to power in 2014 with U.S. support. In 2014, two regions of Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, opposed this government. As a result, official Ukraine fought a war with Donetsk and Luhansk for eight years. Many civilians, women and children died. On May 2, 2014, people who opposed the new government were brutally murdered in the Trade Union House in Odessa. Russia tried to negotiate peace with Ukraine (meaning the United States), but without success. And if Russia had not started a special operation now, Ukraine, supported by the United States, NATO, and Europe, would have gone to war with Russia. The U.S. needs the war to weaken Russia. The U.S. is pursuing an aggressive policy against many countries in the world. Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia. If American citizens do not force the U.S. government to remove NATO bases and biolaboratories from Russia's borders, U.S. defeat is inevitable Western journalists are afraid to tell the truth about what is happening in Ukraine. The editors of Western channels do not broadcast what is really happening. The editors of American channels force correspondents to lie about Donbass. Such a confession was made by journalist Patrick Lancaster. He came to Donetsk from the United States and stayed here. Now he is an independent correspondent and tells an English-speaking audience about everything he has seen with his own eyes.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bneZo52riL6nhs0

Ukraine has been shelling Donbas for 8 years, and now Russia will end the killing and weed out the fascists. A limited number of soldiers want to fight. Most accept they have orders to carry out and fighting the best you can increases your odds of survival.It doesn't matter one dot to the Ukranian people who have dead pets, dead kids and dead relatives and where homes got destroyed wether they get to maintain their "sovereignty" in general, lengthy rebuilding with possibly ongoing unrest in the Eastern regions. That would be a Ukrainian victory ,thanks(?) to the West.There is no meaningful good change after being left with broken hearts and minds through devastating loss of loved ones, mental trauma and hard times ahead.

Am running out of adjectives to describe Channel 4's superb reporting. All of these reporters should receive awards for their brilliance and courage. Introducing us to heroic figures such as: Sergei Olov, Nadiya Navka, and, very sadly, Lyudmila Semernya (What a wonderful woman!!!) gives us extraordinary insight to the horrific tragedy which is unfolding in Mariupol. If possible, it would add to the narrative if Channel 4 might be able to have segments focusing on some of the villains there -- eg Colonel Mikhail Mizintsev, the Butcher of Mariupol as well as Chechnian President Ramzan Kadyrov whose fighters are renown for their extraordinarily sadistic atrocities. Thank you again for your excellent work! I pray for the safety of the Channel 4 reporters and all of the brave Ukrainians who are suffering so much.,

If Ukraine were stronger than Russia, then you would see the same thing somewhere near Moscow)))Now there is an internecine war between Ukraine and Russia, characteristic of early capitalism in Europe. Ukraine and Russia abandoned the communist system 30 years ago and entered the early phase of the emergence of capitalist relations in society. The formed underdeveloped oligarchic elite of these two countries began to compete in the world market. Who is strong, he eats... My country (Russia) has the same capitalism as yours. Only in my country it (capitalism) is rabid, oligarchic. You Europeans are no different from us in your perception of the world, we have the same social system (forgive me for teaching you life). Bourgeois society generates a bourgeois worldview among the population of the country. "Being determines consciousness," which means Putin is the choice of the bourgeois society of Russia. What are your complaints about capitalism?Is there something you don't like? Do you want communist ideology to come to Russia again?Let the oligarchs play a war game. Ordinary people will not sleep peacefully until the oligarchs have had enough :-)))) (google translation)

Unfortunally, the court would have to start from 1950 war crimes, till today's war. So there is so many people and governements to judge, and this war could be judged in 50 years : justice offices take a long time. And don't think that a woman showing his face on a telephon telling her story of event in Ch4 will be sufficiant as proof of war crime, it looks like much more zelensky propaganda. Half of this report is not trustable. Russians took the city, and they'll show their own proof of this theater, so ?

Because Putin has always been like this, only the west ignored his evil behaviors and actions. We should have never done business with him since the past 15 years at least. But the west wanted to still buy oil, ect, from him and so we are guilty of feeding this monster and giving him power.

A frightening thought came into my mind regarding the Theatre in Mariupol that was bombed . The shell impacted the stage area and killed many people in the basement level under the stage . I have a chilling theory that someone called in that strike due to how damned precise and damaging it was. I hope that I am wrong but such precision amid the randomness of all the other missile/artillery strikes in Mariupol is more than coincidence methinks.

Their best and brightest paratroopers can't even stand still. As a citizen of a NATO state,I used to feel quite intimidated by the Russian military. Now I just pity them. A few weeks ago, I was horrified by Ukraine's request for a no fly zone. Now I think we might as well declare one. I don't think it would be WW3. I think we'd wipe them up quite quickly.

Existential threat means bombing Russia. Dropping food, water, and medicine to civilians; through jets, drones, or buses (with military escort) is NOT an existential threat to Russians. Their military is stealing the food because they're hungry; not because they're not allowed to let go of escaping civilians.. Just bring extra food (or money) up to the roofs of the buses.. (and military escort).. and do this at night, if possible and/or necessary.. Make it happen... Please apportion some of the $100M for the feeding and evacuation of the 150,000 Mariupol civilians. I believe in Ukrainians and that the brave Ukrainian Army can pull this off... I'm sure the Mariupolans have earned it.. Prove you are one with the dying, the dehydrated, and the starving people of Mariupol... God-willing...

Funny how they never mention this gas flows through Ukraine and still Russia provide gas and heating to 97% of ukraninan population , nor do they mention Ukraine receives transit fees from Russia for that gas, in fact Ukraine receives between $3 to $4 millions daily for such gas transit.
