This is my favorite movie of all time when it comes to John Carpenter let me tell you my cousin and I and I went to the theater and watch this in 1981 when it came out and it completely scared the crap out of me what an awesome movie this is I will always love this movie it's got a special place in my heart I love all the jump scares along with the perfectly timed music to the jump scare

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) is in my top 5 Carpenter movies. Very budget but very entertaining. Worth checking out if you haven’t already.

My copy just arrived yesterday and I'm looking froward to watching it tonight. The Carpenter/Russell commentary track is originally from the 1994 collector's edition laserdisc. All of the Carpenter/Russell commentary tracks (Escape From New York, The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China) are excellent and well worth a listen. The Mono soundtrack listing on the packaging might be an error unless they are referring to the commentary tracks. This new Scream Factory version supposedly also includes a new restoration of the original stereo audio track as well. Maybe the Mono listing on the back was meant to be Stereo.

Great review! Tied with "The Thing" as my favorite Carpenter movie. Commentary with Carpenter and Kurt Russell is excellent and very funny especially their comments during the wrestling scene.

Great review buddy and phenomenal 4K. Have to pick it up. Interesting info, Carpenter wanted Russell, the studio wanted Charles Bronson. Also, James Cameron did a lot of the matte paintings for the movie.

Yeah, Escape from New York was not one of Kurt's first movies. He got his start as a child actor. As I recall one of his breakout roles was The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. However he DID have a massive success with Carpenter that gave a significant bump to his profile, and that was his role as Elvis.

Russell had many lesser roles in many films before Escape from NY. Love this film, and Shout Factory made some very good upgrades on what was already a fantastic 4K transfer by Studio Canal.

The infamous Carpenter/Russell commentary for this movie was produced for a special edition laserdisc in the 90s. Trivia: Criterion literally invented the running commentary. The very first one was for Criterion's laserdisc of King Kong. They also popularized the widescreen format for home video. This was all back during a time when most people were renting VHS tapes.

(Coincidentally, during The Thing commentary, John Carpenter mentions how he thinks Keith David may have stolen a car. Universal literally edited that comment out on.....I think it was one of the later DVD releases and all subsequent releases. You can still find it on the special edition laserdisc and the first few DVD releases.) Carpenter and Russell also did a commentary for Big Trouble in Little China, but that one is not nearly as good as the Escape and Thing commentaries, I don't think. They did not do one for Escape From LA.

Most of Kurt Russell's body of work up to this had been his family-friendly Disney stuff. He played Elvis in a movie that Carpenter did and Carpenter was impressed with his work. He wanted Russell all along even as the studio heads tried to put in other movie tough guys like Bronson. Ernest Borgnine was one of the older Hollywood actors. Best known to the TV crowd for his TV series "McHale's Navy" in the early '60's, but before that he won an Oscar for his work in the feature film "Marty." While not a true "chameleon" as an actor, he handles a wide range of acting roles equally well. Like you, I pre-ordered this film and it arrived today for me as well. Now looking forward to the release of Dog Soldiers.

It's the same transfer as the Studio canal release but the Scream Factory has a better encode. Studiocanal release is authored on BD66, this is BD100 which gives a much higher bit rate. Same transfer but the picture quality on the Scream Factory release is substantially better and holds up better in the dark scenes.

Note Snake Plisken was out before Rambo in 1982. So Kurt Russell was the pre Rambo anti hero of its day. Also James Cameron worked on the film. The special features started with Laserdisc

donald plesance in this film as the president is terrific i think russell's performance in these movies are pretty fun most of russell's films seem to be quite interesting he did disney movies before action movies and the film that i believe was mentioned during stallone month was tango and cash which does star kurt russell in it but russell did other movies after it during the 1990s, backdraft, unlawful entry, captain ron, tombstone, Forrest gump in a Uncredited role of elvis, STARGATE as jack o neill then you have executive decision which russell was teamed with Steven seagal, which i think he might be a good guy stopping terrorist criminals on the plane, Think of it as a kurt russell-steven seagal buddy cop equivelant to Air force one with harrison ford then of course you have escape from La which had snake return soldier has a interesting story for a action scifi film and breakdown , puts russell in a rather fascinating crime mystery russell's performances from the 2000's onward seem to get better also one particular film from the early 2000s i like to point out which is also a kevin costner film, is 3000 miles to Graceland which is esentially a goofy crime caper comedy where these people dress up as elvis impersonators and rob a las vegas casino this is basically a costner-russell version of Oceans 11 but with a Elvis element added

1. Snake is in trouble throughout the entire movie. 2. A British President? 3. Manhattan seems to me to be very expensive real estate for a prison. 4. Everyone who says, "I heard you were dead" dies. 5. The eye patch is Russell's idea.😎 6. I loved, loved, loved Harry Dean Stanton😁😇 7. This was filmed in an area of St Louis before it was refurbished. 8. Besides doing this for a living, the only reason to watch "Escape from LA" is to say you have.

I am mostly a horror fan but have some other genres. I have Escape From NY on VHS and DVD. I like the film but I only buy horror 4Ks. Anyway it looks like one awesome set for sure. Good for you that you got it. Good showing and cool video!👍
