In real life, the smartest people sometimes suck at escape rooms because they tend to go for the most complex answers to the puzzles rather than keeping it simple. I would have loved to see them fail hard because they were trying to solve puzzles with advanced calculus or something.

It's true. There is no escape room that requires advanced calculus to solve the puzzle. Escape Room is meant to be solvable by everyone. Advanced calculus would only make 99% customers to be unable to complete your room and that's not good for your business.

well no, probably not. they design it so you have to get multiple clues to get the code which will send you to the big clue to get you out... it really is fun if you haven't tried it. :)

The escape room I participated in, I figured one of the drawers contained the object we were trying to find. It was secured with a 4-digit padlock. I guess we could've gone through all 10,000 permutations, but 1) it wouldn't have been as satisfying and 2) we may not have had the time to do so. Brute force requires you to also be lucky.

I've played the escape room once. There are 8 lockers in the room which are part of the clues. One of my friend didn't wanna search and just chose a random locker, and tried the password which he has been used for almost 20 years for his own locker. IT WAS CORRECT and the final key was in that locker. We escaped. Two and a half minutes. Never played escape room again.

I’ve done 2 escape rooms. The first was a Death Note themed room with my friends. We got all the way to the final clue in like 10 minutes because we instinctively knew stuff from the anime. We were stuck on it for most of our time before we used a hint and escaped immediately after. The second was a Sherlock Holmes themed room with my family. I chose the regular difficulty but apparently both difficulties were still harder than the rest of the rooms they had. It took more than 10 minutes to get rolling, we got into the second room like 3 minutes before time up. The attendant informed us about a third room in the escape room as well when we left.

Since you were able to solve the puzzle in only the second room, makes me wonder if the third room might have been a dummy room, or a room that ultimately doubled back to the second room. I've heard some Escape Rooms will have a dummy room if they have the extra space (and props) just to punish players who immediately think just because they can access a new room means they are completely done with the last one.

I think I know a reason. Range of a signal was too short to reach him and since command to slow down also needs to be belivered he will just get our of range and straight to heaven. Both my helicopers however died because they dropped behind something and when I got to them to command them to stop they were already damaged beyond repair

Not every escape room has a key. I did an escape room where you had to defuse a bomb by entering in a special code. There were 3 rooms in one. 1 room was the main room with the bomb, the other room you could only communicate via a pipe (so could only hear them but not see them), and the other room was behind soundproof glass so you could only see them but not hear them. The Bomb room was the hub of it all and had to coordinate getting/communicating clues from all 3 rooms. We failed.

I saw clip from an actual room like that. The chain holding the zombie would get longer every few minutes, and if he touched you you were 'dead' and had to sit the game out. Once the chain reached full length he could reach the entire room and everyone technically 'died' because they couldn't escape him.

It depends. The harder ones are usually hard because they follow a quite specific train of thought and logic of the person that made it, instead of being objectively hard. And then even quite simple solutions can become stupidly hard because the person's association to some term can be something completely different. And that is why I myself don't like them. They are either too easy (when made with "general" rules) or idiotically hard when made with someone's personal input. You have the similar effect when you play Association, or Charade, or what ever the name or version is popular where you live. If you do it with a person who's train of thought you know well, it is easy. But when you play it with someone you've just met, even a simple things become stupidly and pointlessly hard. And it takes out all the fun out of the game. Reminds me a little of the Riddles in the Dark chapter of the Hobbit. "What do I have in my pocket?", well, that's a good riddle, how am I to answer that?!

But then the previous line says "this man's (the son's) father" so that would be the grandson. It's a statement by the son about the grandson. This happened to my friends and I when we went to an escape room, we're all highly educated and good with puzzles and we cleared the room that "85% of people fail" in half the time allotted and were like "...that's it?" The staff suggested we cheated. -_-

It isn't too hard to do. I've done a number of rooms now with a few different groups and sometimes you get a group that meshes well and you get a sort of rapid fire sequence of solving the puzzles, other times you can miss something small and struggle for a while. Having outside knowledge sometimes helps a bit, but the most important thing is how well your team can work together.
