Nice to see another person seeing through the matrix. It took you a while but you got there. Respect to the effort and struggle you had to go through from 16; it must have been rough. I learnt the trap of money young, the trap of greed at the same time., the trap of big city life later, have never been into consumerism and have always known the importance of spending as little as possible where possible. Backpacking from Pakistan overland back to the UK as a 22 year old in the mid 90s and living in London taught me that. You're a smart fella who having seen through the game that's played on everyone will now be able to apply your talents and time into more fulfilling avenues and enjoy life more in the process. Most importantly for you, you discovered the trap of greed. All the best mate. Enjoy your travels. Be safe.

Nice to read this. I can see that seeing the world for yourself and going on a personal journey has also taught you a lot about what’s important in life. We’re planning to ship the van to South America to see ancient sites, and then go all the way up through Cuba to Mexico then USA and Canada. There’s more to see and further learning to be done. I still have the itch to see more. Wish you the best my friend. Appreciate the message and support. 🙏

I completely agree with you, I've gone even cheaper I'm going to live on my bicycle in a tent to see the world. Just 2 months left in the system for me. I've also got the same plan with earning through content creation. I hope you succeed and stay free 🙏

We unplugged from the system while our children were young. Travelled around in a converted van. 2 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs. Was the best time of our lives. Wish we could go back to doing it

you should have far more views on this video! I wish I had worked it out at your age. I do have a small mortgage but it is very nearly paid off and will be a in a few years thank goodness. I am self employed though and have been for the last 12 years which has given me so much time freedom, even if I don't earn a lot. There is a saying that if you do what you love you will never work another day in your life, and that is very true in my case

Appreciate you sharing this. The right people will see the video when they need to 🙏 At least you’re lucky enough to be self employed doing what you love. That’s rare enough in itself 🦅

I get your message that people should learn to value less materialistic things and prioritise their happiness. However if everyone left the system like you have and no longer are trapped by a job, then who is going to grow the food that you buy and eat, who is going to maintain the roads, manufacture the parts that make up your van, and so on. If you don't make stuff, there is no stuff. So the system exists for a reason and without the system the life you lead today would not be possible.

This one hits me. I'm in the exact situation you prescribe; Mile End, earning 35k, spending 1k on a shitty shared flat. My rent is increasing to 1250 in september, absolutely ridiculous. London has shifted my mindset and made me price my freedom so much more.

Tbh I’m glad to hear this, not that you’re paying rent and in a shared flat, but that you’ve realised the situation you’re in and that you’re thinking about your freedom rather than just continuing. Well done

I noticed that though the amount of money "behind you" is important, even more important is how many years you potentially have ahead of you. One thing is embarking on a journey with 20,000 when you are in your late 20s or early 30s, and quite another when you are pushing 50s or 60s. This is a whole different can of worms, on so many levels. Money and young age provide you with a leeway, and the latter is more important than the former. How much money would you need to do what you are doing if you were 55? That's why I find it difficult to relate to your mindset (I like your vidoes, don't take me wrong). I'd rather see a 55 year old with 20,000, with no pension, no property, no sources of income, with a few health issues to pull out the same - quit their job and embark on a joruney. And I don't mean "I'd like to see YOU do it" kind of way. I'd really like to see how people do it, because I am not sure I can.

Agree, there's 2 ways of seeing it: 1. Try and live a free life sooner than later because you only have one life and it goes very very quickly. This video does a good job of pointing that out and it's not wrong about this. "Do it now" philosophy otherwise you get caught up in debt and expenses and inertia and society sucks people in deeper. 2. If 55 as you say, then you definitely need savings for pension age or some sort of nest egg to tide against problems eg health and general quality of life and what you can afford to live off per day when too old to work. For many people it's underestimated how much they need if they're going to be living another 20 plus years post 65... that's where your comment is factual and valuable in contention to 1. If you're young you can always find a time later on to live basically and relatively content and start saving up for old age but at 55 you don't have that time in the bank anymore so to speak so a different choice is probably better eg downsizing and living on less while saving a bit of money from some reasonable working life.

Nice, I ve had the freedom you live in due to being independent, healthy, fit and sustaining myself cheaply until the money runs out without a job. But when it comes having a family, where do they fit in a van? kid's education? their private space and quietude? food keeping? can you imagine having your parents in your van? It's not about fancy cars , houses and look cool for others, it's about finding the balance for yourself. Let's fight and pressure to change the housing crisis.

You have completely understood. I found out about all of this years ago and I keep advising young people to not get trapped into a life of over the top materialism. So. You’re gonna be ok. But do think about the future. You cannot do this all your life. I make very good money myself but I have always managed to live low profile. I have traveled all over but I’m saturated now. I have five more years to go before I retire from a fun job that I do for fun now. Then I will go wandering again. So I have done this the other way around. Anyway, your vision is super. When I was young this lifestyle was not evident not having internet and so on. Over 40 years ago I went to the states for the first time. I hitchhiked from east to west coast. All alone, no phone with internet ! Can you imagine. So it’s a lot easier now. I’m just happy you guys get to live your dream And I’m enjoying watching your adventures. Greets from Brussels

I think what you're doing is great but at some point, travelling is going to get tiresome and you're gonna wanna lay down some roots. Most people travel to get to a destination/goal then set up. Buying land, going off grid and building a family unit, is prolly best. You can still do van life for holidays.
@LIFEOFSIofficial
@LIFEOFSIofficial 2 ай бұрын
I also believe this will happen in time. The plan atm is to buy land in Portugal in the next 5/6 years and build a space for vanlifers/likeminded people. There’s still a whole world to explore before then ✌️

Do you think it would be worth taking a loan (going into debt) to get a van? I'm 27, earn £28k and have £10k saved up but these nice converted vans cost a lot for one that has everything set up properly!
@LIFEOFSIofficial
@LIFEOFSIofficial 2 ай бұрын
I would never advise someone to go in to debt, even if it’s what I did myself. Debt costs money, that’s not a good thing. However, if what you’re saving on rent covers payments and is contributing towards something that’s yours then it might be the choice you choose, like me. I would advise trying to learn to build the van yourself, you’ll save a fortune and you’ll learn everything you need to keep things cheap with repairs when needed. It takes time but I promise it’s time well invested that you’ll be thankful for.
