I feel privileged that I got to know Jonnie Irwin On this series. I only found.ETTC about six months ago on Dabl and they changed programming in December so it’s no longer available to me except on KZbin. He was such a sweetheart with a great sense of humor. Condolences to his family and friends.

So sad that he is dead, feel with his family and friends - hopefuly they can watch him on screen without tears and pain sometime in the future and see how much joy he brought to us all - sorry for my bad english, school out many years...

What a lovely, lovely episode. I adored the couple and well, Jonnie is...was simply the best! So full of warmth and humour and actual knowledge about how to guide people through such a huge decision.

A conventional couple looking for a conventional home like they already have, but in a less congested spot. Very nice people. Hope they found something nice.

Really liked house 1 - garden was tiny but functional - great village location. Liked house 2 - not the kitchen so much but the rest of it was good. Mystery - well they'd already decided I think to like another house - but it was a sweet house. Don't think they were as up for change as they first said lol, but hey it's a lot of money to spend, you have to make sure it's right for the way you live.

Someone please tell me about the British aversion to first floor living. We call houses on one floor, ranchers, and they are sought-after in the US; more land, convenience and bedroom headroom with one level living is how we see it. What am I missing when I see so many folks on this show turn up noses?

I also don't get why they want numerous tiny rooms instead of fewer larger rooms. The "single" bedrooms you can hardly get a single bed in and yourself.

The ‘cultural tradition’ is stipulated when “British” is specified. My q is about the ‘aversion’ that is plain on the faces of most folks. Is it unsafe to have a bedroom on the first floor? Is it too noisy? - ie: In the States, it’s not common to have washers and dryers in kitchens. They started out in basements where utilities are, and have worked their way up near the bedrooms for convenience. I’m not judging, just curious.

Yes, I have wondered about that same question. Also, what is their freak out about a neighboring house “overlooking” their garden? What are they doing in their backyards?

@@bonniekane8547i live in the US and would never buy a home that is overlooked. I would feel I'm always on view, whether gardening, having lunch or watching grandkids. I like the privacy and the freedom of ease and comfort it brings. That doesn't surprise me at all, especially since they usually live with close neighbors and want to Escape to the Country...feeling of space and privacy. I wonder why 50+ wanting a forever home don't want main floor bedrooms because they will age and may have issues with stairs.

House # 1 even with a staircase up to the bathroom would be a no go for me. If they want to age in place I don't think they would be able to do the climb.

It always amazes me how often there are terraced gardens and wacked stairs for elderly homebuyers. No one seems to ever connect this dot.

That's usually because the wife spends more time in the house, making it a comfortable home than what the man does. Not always, but usually.
