Most cars that I've worked on had polythene sheet taped loosely on the door panel behind the card. Is it not necessary for the Escort?

Good evening, these cars do have a clear polythene from factory. This door is likely going to be replaced or stripped and repainted. It is terrible and has had the door lock removed. Also there are no drain holes in the bottom. It will rust away. The door card will be removed again for this work.
