Hi Jake. Great racing, cool vid. The best bit - shaking that mini drivers hand at the end, superb! A few years ago the firm I work with sponsored a driver in the British Endurance Championship & sadly, towards end of season, sportsmanship was lacking with our sponsored car being deliberately taken out on the last bend at Brands during the night race. Enjoy your racing😀

I've watched a few of your videos now and being involved in car racing (pit crew and the occasional laps on orientation days) I do have a few comments. Firstly, isn't the XR3 a 5 speed? I would have thought that using all the gears would get you better results, but I'm a road "driver", I only "race" against myself and the road, lawfully of course, well exept for breaking the speed limit occasionally but only on an empty road, which we do actuallyget here in Australia. You seem to have the right attitude and application for circuit racing but unfortunately the wrong car, but we all have to learn to crawl before we can walk. I don't know how long you have been racing but I wish you all the very best at it 😎👍

Hi Mark. Great question. Using an RS Turbo gearbox, diff ratio is a little bit too long, so on the majority of UK circuits, 3rd and 4th is all you need. The straights at Silverstone would be long enough to need 5th gear. I got to race my dad's Alfa Romeo GTV6 last year which is A LOT faster. Low power cars tend to be more affordable to run over a year.

@@jakemargaliesracing thanks for your reply. The RX3 wasn't very popular here and being a MOPAR man, I didn't have anything to do with them. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate most makes of cars, the lotus cortina is a favourite of mine but I do love my Aussie chryslers. An alfa GTV6, wow, that's a rare car here too, I bet you had fun with that. Anyway, thanks again for your reply and good luck 😎👍

@@markaylott1780 I've been racing a production spec BMW 320 E30, and although the BMW has more advanced suspension and much more neutral handling, with a standard engine and the BMW being around 200kg heavier, the Escort XR3 is faster.

More PS! Can't have an XR3 being overtaken by a bloody IMP!
@jakemargaliesracing Жыл бұрын
Imps are extremely light cars and they don't need a lot of tuning to be that fast, just ask my friend James Ibbotson!
@phildavenport4150 Жыл бұрын
@@jakemargaliesracing About 100kg heavier than a Mini, but better handling. A Mini man myself, a mate rallies and races Imps and I can't help feeling envious at the way it hangs on through corners where my race car struggles to exit at the same speed. Bastard.

@@phildavenport4150 but as you can see with the end of this race, bloody hard to overtake a Mini too lol!

The pre66 cars have the benefit of having very few engine restrictions and being a whole lot lighter...their achilles heel (lap time wise) is their Dunlop historic tyres
@phildavenport41502 ай бұрын
@@ianbrown9082 Can you get Hoosiers on the tyre list? Grip is unbelievable. Expensive, and don't last long, but the lap times are worth the cost.
