★★★★★ "An impressive debut. Well researched, well shot and imaginatively produced" Andrew Trimbee - author and ex-Daily Telegraph
★★★★★ "Flamenco guitar requires rare talent. So does making films that tell a story... this excellent documentary marries the two" Vernon Grant - producer BBC, ITV, C4 Dispatches
Part Two continues with the making of a fine flamenco guitar by Anders Eliasson. From selecting the wood to the first stringing, this intimate portrait of a man and his craft, bears witness to the artisan's skill and patience. Filmed in Andalucía over a period of some weeks in 2007. Just the filmmaker, the luthier and his dog.

That was amazing, such simple tools - cloths pegs - simple drill press - work mate type bench - electric sander and some simple woodworking tools. After watching some of these luthiers producing guitars with jigs and hardly a hand touches the instrument. I am mightily impressed and inspired. Very nicely produced video and kudos for showcasing his work.

Im so fascinated that in our modern technological time can still produce quality guitars although initially use electric machines , but after treatment handtools and great respect for the goals to be. I just to the neck consolidating both glued in Unimpressed sides and bottom which gives a strong design . The after treatment is probably the time where the highest number of hours to achieve a good result and that is where the boundary is between machine produced Instruments and Handmade Instruments and the Guitar builder becomes a Maistro when the instrument is completely finished and ready to play. Thank you that we musicians mu look with during this enormous work to create some of the most delightful Guitars. You work with Flamenco Guitars are amazing from the beginning to the end.

Thanks so much for this post, never would I have believed that someone could build a guitar with so few tools, I am amazed! It is also something to behold, so few modern pieces that make the modern guitar play the way it does. No modern machine head tuners. No truss rod to keep the neck straight. No radiusing the fretboard and frets. No modern X-bracing. It was amazing to see and hear the guitar at the end, I'm amazed much sound came out although it certainly didn't sound like a modern instrument. But with all the items that were not included, so many more were. Now I'm more curious how much an instrument like this would be sold for? Thanks again, this was very eye-opening...

+Brahmstein99 I'm sorry, I should have said something like mass-produced or factory-made. Those guitars, even those of considerable prices do not sound like this amazing guitar. This sound is really outstanding. Plus, the video was pretty nice too. I apologize if my comment might have offended you. Buddy

Beautiful experience watching and listening as the instrument takes shape; it's so relaxing watching the casual sureness of hand as Anders builds. I feel like I get to share some hours with someone who has found just the right place in the world for himself.

Thank you so much for this most instructive video, but I have have a pause or two. The body seems too deep for a typical (95mm) flamenco guitar, and secondly, while the violin pegs are a nice touch, all Spanish/flamenco guitars have the traditional double slot headstock with downward pointing tuners. Apart from which, great videos. LOL
@jalal1392
@jalal1392 5 жыл бұрын
a flamenco guitar can have more or less body depth, as long as the sound characteristics aren't lost. I've seen flamenco guitars with 100mm body depth. as for the pegs, guitars have had pegs since santos hernandez and marcelo barbero in the 1950s, maybe even since antonio de torres. it can't be more spanish, no?

I just started this year in a classical guitar building class in Belgium at the CMB Puurs-school (www.cmbpuurs.be/index_en.php) and these two videos are very helpful to understand the making of a flamenco guitar. Anders, thanks a lot for having shared your craftsmanship and I wish you lots of further success and joy in building new masterpieces !

Lovely film. Seems there is a lot of scraping and clamping involved in making a guitar! Why don't you hammer in the frets before you attach the fingerboard, it looks more difficult doing it the other way around?
@jalal1392
@jalal1392 6 жыл бұрын
you might dent the frets while clamping i guess. and the final shaping of the fretboard probably happens while shaping the neck, this might be why.
