I finally bought the smaller Izula as a lightweight backpacking knife. Under much consideration comparing a double layer SAK and the White River Backpacker, I believe the Izula is probably a better choice overall, given the basic needs of a simple cutting implement in strength, weight, cost, warranty, quality, etc etc. These knives really grow on you, I can see why so many love these little things.

Agree with you. When I travel in woods especially climb mountains with food and water and other items,I really prefer light small knife than big one.

Yeah I can see you really practice what you are teaching. I watched a few videos from you and I trust you on this particular subject of survival because you live that. Personally I don't have time or a place where I can camp in my location but I am very interested on survival. My experience comes from EDC (knives, multitools, flashlights, etc...) and I really like a small fixed blade for EDC. The Izula is among the best.

I like the Izula as well. As my Dad always has said, it's the skills of the man using the tool not necessarily the tool that counts. I regularly use a Swisschamp while backpacking and it hasn't let me down yet! Nice video as always sir!

Absolutely it is. If you don't have it on you pretty much 24/7 it isn't actually a survival knife IMHO. To me my pocket knife is my survival knife, based on availability and the fact that no matter what I am 99% likely to have it where my belt or neck knives have a lower availability.

My favorite model of knife. Comes very close to actually being capable of most tasks and nimble/light enough to carry with you at all times. I had Grizzly Outdoors design custom sheaths that have Izula's mounted outside larger models. As near to perfect system as I need. My other very slight modification is to glue a mini Photon light to the existing Izula sheath which makes a very handy camp accoutrement. These are so handy that I own 4!

hows the screws i hear is the worst? to cary a exra thing just to lock screws is a no buy for me. and no 90 spine. I going back to Eldris. :)
@honortruth36003 жыл бұрын
@@MaNi-cn7to Haven't had any issue with the scale screws, but since you mention others have complained, we'll probably put some blue Loctite on them. We use it on all our folding knives. We are annoyed by having to file the Izula's spine to 90°. I love the Eldris, and it's actually my personal EDC in the wilderness for fine work. I'm still planning to switch to the Izula because I want its full tang and the ability to spark against hard stone, if for some dumb reason I ever got caught without a way to light a fire. I will still use the Eldris for food prep since it's stainless.
@richroc711 ай бұрын
@@MaNi-cn7toi only use moras for food because they’re SS, lightweight and cheap for camp kitchen but the eldris is still good for crafting bushes. I just know that for one the eldris will break before my Izula will, the ESEE has an unconditional lifetime warranty and I’ve never had to tighten any loose screws on mine nor carry an Allen wrench for them. I don’t use my Izula for ferro rods I use an old hacksaw blade, SAK, silky saw or a scraper. Eldris is a rip ofc imo because it’s twice the price of a companion yet half the materials/size. Eldris is still nice but it’s up to the individual I guess, to each his own 👍

It has been argued by military survival instructors that there is not a single survival knife that has been made to now which provides for all survival needs as some are good for some tasks but extremely weak for others.

Have you tried the extended scales from the knife connection for the izula, OR just building your own izula 2 with their knife builder app? Makes the izula fill your hand and feel great. I've always got my izula 2 in my pocket.

No arguments the izula is a great knife for me personally it's a big on small side the esee 3 or esee 4 are a superior option the weight difference isn't really noticable but the blade length is. Yes a sharpened spine is needed on those as well

Any knife you have on you in a survival situation is a "survival knife". The Izula being pocket sized makes it very viable as something you could easily always carry. Man spent long portions of our shared history with only rock flakes as our cutting implements... so an Izula will 100% work even minus modifications to strike a ferro rod. An Izula w/ a small Arkansas Whetstone and a Ferro Rod ranger banded to the sheath, a mylar blanket, a steel bottle, and some cordage... and you have the majority of the things that are hardest to "quickly" duplicate in a emergency situation. Just need the knowledge of how to use them. The same way you cut that 7 notch... you can "beaver chew" larger green limbs or young saplings to build a shelter. Either alone as a brush shelter or combined with the mylar blanket. Maybe not as quickly as lopping of limbs willy nilly with a larger chopper... but just as surely. A sharp rock can strike sparks from a ferro rod... but the Izula is already capable of striking sparks near the tip of the spine (at least my mine is)... maybe not as readily... but it does strike sparks. Using fatwood scrapings it'd be more than enough as those light up so easily. Maybe attach some wax infused jute twine to a block of fatwood with your ferro rod and you'll have some easy birds nest material as well. A steel bottle to boil water and titan survivorcord, bankline, or whatever your cordage of choice is... and you are golden.

What is a survival knife? 1700-1800s frontiermen traveled acrossed north America trapping beaver etc. They didn't carry much with them just a small or medium sized knife. It's not the size of the tool you use it's the knowledge of the man using the tool.
@viciousKev Жыл бұрын
They did not carry small knives, they carried the precursors to bowie knives, basically daggers and large skinning knives
@devatwell3344 ай бұрын
What do you think they skinned beaver and mink etc. with and get no holes so they could sell them at rendevouz for money. Not a big knife i can tell you that lol @viciousKev
@chrisdolin18594 жыл бұрын
Now why did you pick that instead of the Izula 2....? It’s a far superior knife...!! For what an inch bigger....

I chose it because it is going to be a part of a future project/video, and it came down to the exact measurement I needed. Bonus is that I like it a lot! Can't give away my project/video You'll have to wait.
