I need to replace the gasket on my wood stove, and wasn't sure how to get the old sealant out. Yours was the first video that came up. You explained it very well, as well as how to put the new one on. The only thing I would disagree with is what to do with the door once you have the new gasket on. The instructions that came with mine says to close the door and let it stand for 12 hours. Then, make a small fire and gradually increase the heat. So that's what I'll be doing.
@EarthSense2 жыл бұрын
Sounds good, glad the video was helpful for you. Sounds good on following the instructions included, keep an eye on your seal during the first few fires to ensure it is sealing tightly all the way around. Thanks again!

I'm guessing if my gasket is flat I'd not use a round gasket? Or is it flat due to being closed so many times? I've seen flat gaskets online.
@EarthSense3 жыл бұрын
What you will want to look at is if your door has a groove that the gasket goes/sits into. If it goes into a groove it will be a round gasket. There are very few models that will use a flat gasket for the door seal, however there are some out there. Stove's that use a flat gasket for the door seal will not have a U-shaped groove around the door. Yes, over the years a round gasket can certainly look flat. If you know your stove make and model we can also see if we can pull up the parts guide to see what the correct replacement is for you. Happy to help, thanks!

Thanks David, Glad to hear it was helpful. I know the scraping is loud and lengthy - the goal was to show the entire process as we had some requests for that. I kind of felt the same way about all the scraping. But on second thought, I realized, we have very easy ways to fast-forward or skip the scraping if we don't want to watch it, but those who do want to watch it can't put it back in if it's cut out. Maybe it's helpful to someone.

@EarthSense2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cameron. We'll add that to our list of upcoming videos to complete. Suggestions/Tips: try to make sure all fly ash is vacuumed from the area best as possible. When removing the tadpole ash pan gasket pay attention to how it is installed. Do your best to remove any left over silicone/sealant best you can before installing the new gasket. You may want/need additional high temp silicone when installing if the adhesive backing for the gasket is not holding it securely in place. Hope that is helpful, keep us posted. Thanks,

Do you have a video or info on how to install a view door tadpole self adhesive rope gasket on a Harman Advance pellet stove. Thanks
@EarthSense3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us Frank. Unfortunately we do not have a video on the Advance door gasket (I'll add it to the list), but we can walk you through it here. The Advance will use a specialty notched tadpole gasket with peel off adhesive backing. Some folks like to put a small bead of high temp sealant behind for extra security. Just like the video here, try to scrape out any residue left behind before installing the new gasket. To Access: The Advance will have bolts on the inner door located by each notched area of the gasket. These bolts need to be taken out to access and replace the gasket. They essentially remove an inner frame bracket of the door, allowing access. Some folks will soak them down in WD40 for a bit to make them easier to remove. Pay close attention as you pull the old gasket out and install the new one the same way. Just like the video here, try not to bunch or stretch the new gasket when laying it in and let it set for at least an hour. Advance gasket listing for reference: pellethead.com/product/harman-advance-mark-i-firebox-door-gasket-specialty-tadpole-oem/ Hope that was helpful, any other questions please let us know. Thanks!

I have a mid 1980's Brass Flame Fireplace. What density Cord do I need for replacement?
@EarthSense Жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us Darin. Tried doing some research for Brass Flame Fireplace but couldn't find anything out there online. I would suggest you measure the door groove where the gasket sits. Generally rope gasket size will be 1 up from the groove width - Ex. 1/2" Groove width = 5/8" Rope Gasket. The vast majority of rope gaskets are medium to firm density. Some are soft, and some are firm, but most are medium to firm weave. Hope that helps, thanks!

What is the proper way to clean the air wash system on a Harman Advantage 2
@EarthSense2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us. I think your referring to the Harman Advance-2 or Harman Accentra-2 (Harman did not make an Advantage model). The Harman air wash system is a small gap on the bottom part of the firebox opening that allows some combustion air to come through and wash over the glass. You can use a can of air duster (pressurized air) to clean in that gap and clear out any ash. Other Tips: -Once you clean the glass, go back over it with a wet paper towel to remove any of the glass cleaner residue. It will stay cleaner longer. - If you are running your stove on low settings, turn it on higher settings for a short period and that will help to clear the glass. - Pellets - You will notice a major difference between pellet fuel and how clean the glass stays. Hope that was helpful, any other questions let us know. Thanks!

What is the size door gasket needed for a Blaze King Royal Heir RHT 2200 Wood Stove?

I have a few questions in regurds to this topic I have a castle serenity pellet stove And i am not at all sure on how to get the door off If you know how please advice Next for gasket cement I am asking this next question i have this tube of fire proof calk and my question is can it be used to replace the door gasket I have used in the past red rtv sealant it works just a major pain to squeeze in tight spacesesand the idea of a caulk and a caulk gun sounds so much easier your input on this please Thank you in advance
@EarthSense3 ай бұрын
Thanks for contacting us David, happy to assist. In looking at images of the Castle Serenity online it appear the door has small pins at the top and bottom that insert into bracket receivers on the outside of the door. The brackets appear to be welded from what I can see. Possibly see if you lift the door up if the bottom pin will come out of the receiver (Stove off and cool). We've never done technical service on this particular model, so apologies we can't guide further. If you can't door off, you can certainly replace the gasket with the door on, it will just be a bit more challenging. As for the sealant, as long as it is high temperature rated you are good to use it. Some folks use gasket cement, others will use a high temp silicone with a caulk gun. Generally we do the latter for our service and maintenance calls. The high temp silicone we offer with our gasket kits is rated to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep us posted on the door, happy to help how we can. This would be the aftermarket door gasket kit we offer for the Serenity model. pellethead.com/product/pellethead-replacement-ardisam-castle-hps10-serenity-fire-door-rope-gasket/ Thanks.

Hey Alan, just heard back from our lead tech: The XXV door should just lift off of the pins. Open the door so it is perpendicular to the front of the stove and lift the door straight up. It should have a notch cut in the cast top to allow the door to lift off, but if it is an older version without that notch then you will need to un-bolt the top hinge plate to get the door off. Forester by USSC model 5824 glass and door gasket size ?
@EarthSense2 жыл бұрын
Had to do a bit of digging on that one. Here is what I found. Door Gasket for the 5824 Model is Part #88141. The manual does not indicate the size or type. This retailer has it listed (Link Below). It appears to be a 1/2" or 3/4" wide flat tape style gasket. Does your current gasket lay directly on the face of the door or is it in a groove? The glass gasket for the 5824 Model is Part #88139. I was unsuccessful finding anyone who sells this part number including the USSC factory site. Best I can say is to measure what you currently have best you can and make note of the style (rope or flat). @EarthSense3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jacklyn, Thanks for contacting us. If you can't find any markings or labeling on the stove for the manufacturer and model, I would suggest measuring the door gasket groove. Generally speaking the gasket used will be one size up from the groove width. Ex. 1/2" groove will generally use a 5/8" gasket. The best way is to determine the make and model of the stove, but if that is not achievable we should be able to get a proper replacement this way. Thanks!

Thanks for contacting us Kate. In some cases you will find the model of the stove on the UL label of the unit. Generally this is a steel plate somewhere on the unit that provides the serial number and date of manufacturer. If you cannot locate that, let's measure the groove width in the door channel. Should the new rope be the same diameter as the channel it goes into or slightly larger? Should I USE 3/4" gasket in my 5/8" channel? The old seal I removed had a smaller rope inside the outer one so it was quite dense, the new 5/8" one I bought didn't and it's not as dense, that's why I'm thinking maybe I should go with 3/4"? Can you recommend which gasket to use for a standard earth stove door from the mid '70's? Really helpful vid - thanks so much.
@EarthSense6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear the video was helpful. Wow, that's an old Earth Stove - That must be a wood stove model because Earth Stove didn't make pellet stoves until the late 80's. I know that most Earth Stove Pellet stove models use a 3/4" firm gasket. I would not be familiar with the really early Earth Stove Wood Stoves. Possibly one thing you could do would be to lift the gasket up a little bit and measure across the groove that it sits it. We would probable go with just 1 size larger than the groove. You can also squeeze the current gasket to feel what the density is like. Most will be medium to hard, however some are soft. Let us know what you find and we will see if we can assist with a replacement. Thanks!
@wisedove76 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the speedy reply! Yes..it's a wood stove, and the gasket is definitely wider than the one you used in the vid above. It's quite worn but the stove still has a decent seal, and I suspected it would need to be firm. I'd rather not lift the gasket unless I have a replacement on hand or coming, but if I can't find one here I will let you know when I do. Thank you again. :-)

Hey Dwight, thanks for the message. Did some digging, found this parts outline for the Earth Stove BV450C. I know you just mentioned BV450, but I'm thinking this is correct. Shows a 3/4" Diameter Rope Gasket. You can always pull a small section of the gasket up and measure the groove width in the door gasket channel. Generally speaking, gasket will be one size up from the groove. Ex. 5/8" groove width, 3/4" diameter gasket. Let me know if that makes sense. @@EarthSense Thanks so much for getting back to me! I had a 3/4" Rope gasket I bought last year I tried to install last night. It was too big and after trying to cram it in the groove the best could I was unable to get the door to close no matter how hard I tried... After reading your message I measured the groove and it is just less than 1/2 inch wide. So I'm guessing a 5/8" gasket will be best, just ordered a Pellethead rope gasket and a gasket for the glass window on Amazon! The old one I that I took out (it's about 30 yrs. old) and gets daily use all winter looks smaller than the 3/4" one I tried. Thanks again for your videos and response!

I have a 25 yr old Quadra fire 1100 pellet insert. It will light then the auger shuts down and will not turn back on. Unit shuts down. I did the paper test on the door and the paper slips out with extreme ease. Could the door gasket be my problem for the unit shutting down.

I have a Cumberland pellet stove 3800 series. I just bought the stove from a guy a couple months ago. Everything has been working fine until recently it has popped really loudly when firing up during cycle And a big puff of smoke cones out around the ash pan or door, can’t tell fir sure. Obviously this has to be a pressure issue. I’m wondering does this sound like a seal issue or other. I’m planning on tearing into the back of it in the morning to check cleanliness.
@EarthSense3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. Generally we will see this kind of issue when there are two many pellets in the burnpot on start-up. Too much fuel in the firepot can create an almost explosive ignition. It can also be caused if there is air restriction from ash blockage or burnpot holes that are plugged. I would suggest you go through a thorough cleaning on the unit and vent pipe; this very well could just be a cleaning maintenance issue. Keep us posted. Thanks!

Is that roap asbestos? And dose it need specific handling?
@EarthSense6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message. No, the rope is not asbestos. Gasket rope is made of a fiberglass material. Some folks do like to wear gloves when working with it, however it is not required. Any other questions please let us know. Thanks

Good video but you should have started it with the actual door removal process to include removal of hinge pin retainer clips.
@EarthSense3 жыл бұрын
Good note, thanks for the suggestion. Yes, some pull right up and off such as the St Croix door here and some have hinge pins that need to be removed - lots of variances between makes and models out there. If assistance is needed on how to take the door off we are happy to provide suggestions based on the make and model. Appreciated!

some people like meeting at the side, some meeting the bottom, some clip the end of the rope at the start, some wet the cord, some leave the glue for a while before adding the cord, some don't, basically everyone does this differently, i'm about ready to yolo it.

One of my stove glass clip screws has become ceased and rusted and won't unscrew. How do you suggest I get it out?
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us. I would suggest soaking down the screw for a day or so in something like WD40 or PB Blaster. If it still wont bust loose I would suggest putting some heat to it - if you have a pencil torch, heat that screw up almost red hot so the metal expands. If that doesn't work the only other thing I can think of would be to get a tap and die set to remove it. Let us know if you are able to get it. Thanks,

Hi I have a Harmon pc45 that's over 10 years old. Last year our Harmon guy said the gasket didn't need replacing but we have soot mark "goasting" on our ceiling and I tried that trick of trying to pull a dollar bill through the door and I could. I therefore think it needs replacing. What size would it take and do you think I'd need to replace the bottom door gasket where the pellet basket sits. I'm hoping to not have to take the door/s off their hinges. Thanks, Laurie
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
Laurie, thanks for contacting us. I don't believe the soot mark 'goasting' is coming from the front door or ash pan door. The stove is always sucking in and blowing out the exhaust. When a gasket seal is no longer tight, you will notice a less efficient fire/flame - starting to get lazy. If that dollar bill pulls out with little resistance, it would be good to replace that gasket. You can check the ash door gasket the same way. Same size gasket is used on the door and the ash pan door for your stove. Link below to the door gasket kit for the PC45. To address the smoke, I would give strong suggestion to check the exhaust vent pipe connection and vent pipe seals. Again, the unit is blowing out the exhaust so it's under positive pressure. Even small leaks by the vent adapter or venting connection points will allow smoke/soot to come in the home. We use a hand held CO meter to detect for leaks in the pipe. Closely check that area. One last thing, the vacuum cleaner you use to clean your stove. If you are using a normal vacuum cleaner, that soot is going to pass through into the home. We recommend either an ash vacuum or to use hepa drywall dust filters in a standard shop vac. Hope that helps, any other questions please let us know. pellethead.com/product/harman-heatilator-fire-door-ash-pan-door-rope-gasket-seal-kit-3-8-x-30/ Thanks,

@@EarthSense thank you for the info. We have lost power a few times resulting in the house filling with smoke. Maybe that is the cause. We do use an ash vac to be safe. Recently bought a battery back up-surge protector unit which should give us 30 to 45 minutes to cool down the stove hopefully eliminating the house filling with smoke againg. Thanks for your reply!
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
@@lauriewhite4804 Our pleasure Laurie. Yes, if power goes out some smoke will come in unless you have fresh air intake installed on the unit. With the PC45 and other Harman's, with Fresh Air Intake installed it is a sealed unit. I think the battery back-up is a great option as well to cool everything down safely in the event of an outage. Thanks again, warmest regards.

any tips on how to remove the screws holding the glass seem to have we welded them self on?
@EarthSense4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sometimes those screws can be a real bear.. I would suggest using a lubricant such as WD40 or PB Blaster and letting that soak in to each of the screws for a day or so (Stove off). See if they will budge. If they are still being stubborn, I would suggest using a small pencil torch and heating the area around the screw up so that the metal expands. Wear good protective hand gloves. Keep us posted, hopefully that is helpful. Thanks!

How did you get the door off? The front glass cracked on my stove. Goglass wants me to bring the door in so that they can replace it, but how to do that is not in the owner's manual. I don't want to break anything.
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. There are differences in how the door comes off based on the make and model of stove. This one was off a St. Croix stove and just sets on the pin hinges. So with this one we just wiggle back and forth with upward force and it comes right off. I would suggest taking a close look at the hinges from the door to the stove body. The majority are like this one where they are simply set on the pin hinges. Some may have bolts or retainers that have to be removed first - just depends on the model. Happy to assist, thanks.

Hi, I have an older RAIS Mino with the soapstone top/oven which came with a house I just purchased. I am having a hard time finding out what size gasket to use to replace the dress gasket which is old and fraying. When I called a representative I was told RAIS uses a universal gasket size for all models. I ordered the gasket kit and the stove repair man told me it didn’t fit the door- meanwhile he threw away the original so I cant tell what size it was myself. Then he told m,e to order a different gasket and that also did not fit. Ive having a difficult time getting return calls from dealers (except for the original who sold me the kit)- can you please help? The manual says contact the manufacturer or a dealer, and the manufacturer is in Europe. Meanwhile- no gasket 😞😞. Thanks! Jen
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message Jen, Happy to assist. Does the rope gasket lay in a groove on your model? Can you measure the groove that the gasket lays into? If we can get a decent measurement on the gasket groove, I believe we can determine the correct diameter gasket for your model. Let us know, happy to assist. Thanks, -Mr. Pellethead

Hi. My father in law has a pellet burning stove that we replaced the door seal on last week. Did all you showed, cleaned as good as we could, put new glue in and new rope. Not the rope you shown but a 12 mm grey rope that was very fluffy. (Same as was from the factory by the way) We put it in nicely, didn't stretch but also didn't stuff in in there. Now door doesn't seal... What did we do wrong? Also, his door had gaps in the channel in the corners and he said the old rope was stuffed into these gaps... Felt kinda strange doing that instead of just going around the corners. Is that normal?
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contacting us. Yes, something is off here. Can you let us know the make and model of his pellet stove? We can cross reference the correct gasket size and let you know of any particulars that are required for his model. Happy to assist and make sure everything is 100%. Thanks, Mr. Pellethead

@@EarthSense Hi. Doesn't seem to have a make on it but the model is NB-P01-13. It's not even 2 years old yet. Thanks in advance!
@EarthSense5 жыл бұрын
@@TheDennisZb Thanks Dennis. I wasn't familiar with that model so I looked it up. Manufacturer appears to be Ningbo which is one Alibaba imports in. Without ever carrying that model it would be difficult to say exactly what is going on with the door gasket. Generally speaking gaskets should last several seasons. A 12mm gasket equates out to being very close to a 1/2" gasket. It's important to have a tight seal all the way around. Possibly there was a mistake with the gasket size in the owners manual or something specific with that model that raised the gasket. Also unusual to have gasket stuffed in the corners as you mentioned. The important thing here is to have a tight seal all the way around ensuring there are no air gaps. You can try to put an additional bead of silicone behind the gasket to raise it up a bit or you could try to go a size higher with the gasket, such as a 5/8" replacement - Again, just important we have a solid seal all the way around. Any other questions please let us know. We carry virtually every size gasket if you need a different replacement. Thanks,

How do I remove the feed door from my USSC Model 2000 stove ?
@EarthSense4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, from what I can see on the 2000 model it appears the door has 2 pins on the right side when facing. You should be able to open the door and move it back and forth slowly while pulling up at the same time. The door should lift off those hinge pins. Let us know if that works for you or if you have any other questions. Thanks!
