I LOVE my EGO cordless trimmer!!! I purchased a new Cub Cadet ZT1 50" zero turn mower and after 3 hours of use, it broke. It has been in the authorized repair center since 4/30 (it is now 6/18). I have been using my EGO trimmer since that time touching up the areas of the yard and around my shop while waiting for the return of my mower. This trimmer has run many an hour and has shown no faults. It is so convenient to use, I actually kind of enjoy weedeating now. Weird huh? My Stihl trimmer sits in the garage and will probably be out front during my next garage sale. This was a good purchase!

i'm so glad that i stumbled upon your video. i have been looking for a trimmer for a month and i didn't want gas and i didn't want to spend a million dollars. i have a rather small side yard that is full of fox tail. every year it rains and rains so much in the spring that i can't get out to mow it before it ends up being 3 ft tall. then it goes from that to 100 degrees and i don't feel like doing it. my little 20 volt black and decker did nothing and i was just about ready to buy a hedge trimmer. i saw your video this morning , i called home depot and they said that it was a great product and very popular and it has a bunch of great reviews. But with your video i actually got to see it in action. i went and bought one today and when it stops raining and dries up a bit, i'll be out there slaying the tall grass and weeds. thanks for posting !!! REALLY appreciate it.

The hinge on the shaft is to fit in a box on the Home Depot store shelves. Once the shaft is straightened and the bolt installed, you NEVER take it out to fold the shaft for storage as wrongly stated in this video. This can damage the unit. This warning is in the directions. Ego sells the same unit without the hinge, likely not in the store but possibly on HD's web site. Great unit with allot of power.

I have read the hinge is so it is easier to display in the store. It is a one time use, not meant to take out repeated times to store at home. They also make a model without the hinge not available at the Home Depot store, but I could not find it online.

I have a whole line of Ego products. I like the trimmer, have not had the battery issues that some others have commented..... But I cannot get past that it spins the wrong way
@EshlemaniaTV4 жыл бұрын
Ya know the ability to spin the head both ways is about all that this trimmer is missing.
@charny54 жыл бұрын
@@EshlemaniaTV I would agree with that, but it still doesn't make sense that they would have the head spin clockwise. In many ways that alone also makes the guard unnecessary. Sure it keeps the line at a certain length, but it also helps to catch some of debri when the head is spinning the correct way which is counter-clockwise. With the rotation as is, you are throwing trimmings etc back in to the bed or whatever you are trimming unless you walk in a really awkward position that makes it even more difficult not to shave the ground.
@charny54 жыл бұрын
I suppose the argument could be made that if you were just hacking at high grass, or bushwhaking that it wouldn't make a difference. In fact might even be preferable. I feel pretty comfortable in stating that that's not really their target demographic though.

I owned one and liked it until I had trouble with the power-string feeder. I couldn't get it to spool up new line. I called Support, got the address for EGO's repair, and since it just happened to be located next door to Home Depot where I had bought it, I decided to try to return it to HD and get a new one. HD would only give me store credit since I had passed the 6 months date. Then HD told me they no longer carry EGO's, now only Ryobi and Milwaukie equivalents. To make a long story short, after reading the reviews on Ryobi and Milwaukie, I now think I should have had it fixed by EGO because I still have an EGO leaf blower, but without a charger or battery! Argh! Your review changed my mind. It's a good machine, just get it fixed.

Good review, good explanation of how to load new line. One suggestion, the trimmer would do a much better job if you don't shove the head in so far because the line won't cut as efficiently as it would if you move in more slowly. I haven't seen much that stops one of these trimmers. They hold up very well! And at that price how does that not increase profits for a landscaper when they have no gas, plugs, or filters to buy? I always have to laugh when I a landscaper says that a battery trimmer wouldn't have enough power for what they do and then you see them trimming light grass around flower beds and walk ways with their $300+ gas powered trimmer and running it at 1/4 to mid throttle.

I have a lawn care business so if I switch from gas to battery what is the easiest way to charge the batteries all day while I go house to house ?
@EshlemaniaTV3 жыл бұрын
There's actually a lot of landscapers and lawncare businesses switching over to battery or at least using a few battery powered products so there are quite a few solutions to that question. Some just plug in a charger at the customers house and charge a battery or 2 while they work. Most have an inverter in the truck that they can plug the charger in to. And then the extreme would be the companies that have installed solar panels on the roof of their box trucks and enclosed trailers to use the solar panel to recharge their batteries. There are companies out there that have been running nothing but battery powered products for a few seasons now. And that includes battery powered zero turns.

Yes on edging, turn the handle 45deg so the bars are at 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock, if that makes sense, so you can grab it while trimming or edging, throws out a lot of debris with or without the guard in place. Edges very well.

Sure wish the EGO ST1520S worked as well as the day I bought it, which was in May 2019. Started off with great promise with easy loading of the string and the batteries lasted long enough to complete the entire yard. The self-loading feature was fantastic. Slowly over the next five months stringing was less then ideal, and the electrical self-loading was very inconsistent. Pretty soon it became apparent this design couldn't hold up to long-term use. Attempts to talk to the EGO company was just as aggravating as the machine itself. The company had limited coverage, and you were virtually forced to leave your name and number for them to return your call. After several attempts they finally return my call, but due to a telephone problem where they couldn’t hear me they hung up and never tried to call back. Considering it took them 12 hours to return my call made it even more frustrating. I would expect a machine the cost as much is this machine does should perform well for at least 12 months under normal personal use at your home. This one didn't. And the company was not responsive.

Thanks for the feedback Ray. You know this trimmer comes with a 5 year warranty so if you bought it brand new and there is an issue with it you should take it to an EGO dealer for repair. Notice I said "DEALER" because you can not get warranty repairs performed at Home Depot or other EGO retailers. It must be an EGO authorized dealer which you can find on their dealer locator on the EGO website.

David you're right about needing better guys, but you know what they say...….. Good help is hard to find...….and guys that can actually mow straight lines are even harder to find these days. HAHA. We've found that trimmers like this are good to have in your fleet if you take on some high schoolers for the summer that you know will turn reloading the head into a 1/s day project...……..and at some point will probably put the wrong fuel in the trimmer. For $230 it's a cheap insurance policy.
@NWOization6 жыл бұрын
Eshlemania TV wait a minute, commercial users are users too. Most of the $500+ strimmers I've used on my farm, were inconsistent and very prone to breaking. We used to sell Echo speed feed heads by the case to a company that was working in the area the one summer. After they came in and bought the second case in a month we asked what they were doing that they needed so many of these heads for. The guy said that they were switching everything over to speed feed heads so there was no reason to take the head apart to restring it. Turns out it was NOT because the people using the trimmer didn't know how restring it, but it was because they would take them apart and purposely throw the eyelets and spring out in the weeds so they would have an excuse to not have to work until someone got them a new head for their trimmer.

The string head on the Dewalt trimmers is at an odd angle compared to gas trimmers. And there was not trick photography or smoke and mirrors in this video where this Ego trimmer does a great job taking down tall thick weeds just like a gas one would. And if price isn't an option, Stihl and Husqvarna have some very strong commercial battery powered string trimmers that are better than the Dewalt 60 volt. Like mine a lot. It has held up for 2 years with no problems. Battery life will be a little short if you have a lot of area on the 2AH battery that comes with it. About 20-30 minutes of use. So get a 2nd battery or 5 AH if you need it. It's quiet and does not have much vibration when compared to other brands I have used. Only regret is I did not get power head version so I could put an edger on it. Now will have to buy a sperate tool. DO NOT buy a DeWalt battery trimmer!! They are junk. The motor is on the head. Burned one up at work in a ditch with a little water in it.

Hey, dude you got the wrong shirt on to be advertising ego. You needed to change. You needed to call the ego company and buy you a shirt.

We have mentioned to the EGO reps a few times that it would be nice to have a shirt or 2 for when we're using their products.

The Husqvarna 536LiXP trimmer is one of the best, if not the best, battery powered trimmers on the market. But the price is what keeps the average homeowner away. It's well balanced and you can run the head in both directions. But you have to buy the trimmer, battery, and charger all separate and just the trimmer it self is more expensive than the ST1521S trimmer kit from EGO. The EGO ST1521S is a solid unit that is so simple to use thanks to the power loading string head. It's also balanced just as well as the Husqvarna 536LiXP and doesn't have the trimmer head mounted at a goofy angle like most battery powered trimmers. We're on year 2 with the trimmer used in the video and as you can see, we're not going easy on it.

Great information, but even as a woman, I weed eat a little stronger than this. I was waiting for you to really get down on it and tear up some weeds, not just hit the surface back and forth :(
@EshlemaniaTV5 жыл бұрын
Those were some pretty thick and tough weeds we were cutting through. Some over 1 inch in diameter. If you make multiple cuts on the weeds the pieces are smaller and decompose faster than just chopping them off at the bottom.

That's the interesting part with all brands of battery powered equipment. When you buy a "kit" you are pretty much buying the battery and getting the tool and charger for just a few dollars more. This kit costs about $230. The 2.5 Ah battery used in the kit costs about $150 when purchased separately. You can buy the EGO LB5302 blower kit right now from an Ace hardware store for $179.99 and it will come with an LB5300 blower, a charger, and the exact same 2.5 Ah battery from the trimmer kit that I just mentioned costing $150 if purchased separately.

*I have used Stihl for over 20 years 🌴 **allabout.wiki/EGO** and after reading some reviews of this trimmer, I tried EGO Power+ , and I'm going to switch. Compared to several Stihl trimmers I've had, this one is easier to start, quieter, and feels at least as well built . A major plus is it doesn't have the wonky, always leaking, complicated gas tank caps that Stihl has.*
