Does POB actually use "premier danseur" for both men and women? Because "danseur" as used in English is usually the man and "dansuese" or just "ballerina" for the girl. I know it's the rank below etoile.

@@minissa2009 Sorry but I don't quite understand your criticism: I'm only talking about the dancer, Hugo Marchand, and not about any "danseuse". The ranks at the Opera are as follows: Quadrille, Choryphée, Sujet, Premier danseur, Danseur Etoile. In fact "Danseur étoile" is more a title than a rank. It is granted by the management of the Opera and announced to the dancer at the end of a performance in front of the public. It is an honorary reward, but it doesn't confer a special status on the person concerned: there are no roles superior to those already given to the first dancers. The title dates from 1937 for women (Alberte Aveline) and 1940 for men (Serge Peretti). Thanks for the message.

It's getting hard to find this full pdd since Bolshoi staged the full production (often this search gets you the one where Esmeralda is really sad she's dancing at the engagement party of the man she loves, different music, and a small corps). Thank you so much! Have not seen either dancer before and have fallen in love with both!
