It is easy to miss the point, which is: Jon Gruden sent a private e-mail to a friend at a time when he was not in the league in any capacity. The e-mail was sent over 10 years ago. This case is not even close. Gruden is 100% right and I think he will win his lawsuit. Goodell may be within his rights to investigate the owner of the Washington Commanders. But in the course of that investigation, if he finds an email from a private citizen (Gruden) who is known to have nothing to do with the NFL investigation, Goodell can't release that information to the public. He knows that it will end Gruden's career in the NFL, so it is malicious and libelous. Who does Goodell think he is? Inspector Clouseau? The FBI?

Van Atta's analysis misses one factor - hubris by the League and the Commissioner: the belief that 1) they are so big and powerful that no one sane would dare to take them to the mat, 2) Gruden wants to be in the club and therefore will quietly take his "punishment" for fear that "burning it all down" would ruin his long-term desire to be back in the club. But strength of conviction does not work that way - Gruden believes the League was underhanded, wants his reputation back, and so he's not going away quietly.

Rich condemned Gruden and his remarks in private emails without even considering how humans talk behind closed doors. If everyone were forced to be honest, oh the things we'd hear and the feelings we'd hurt. Gruden was just dumb enough to think emails or texts are a safe place to joke about some not so safe subjects. I don't think Rich gives two shits about Gruden's rights here.

I didn't think Mark Davis would just fire Gruden... Now I am realizing they more than likely had a private discussion, Gruden agreed its best for optics to let him go. He probably also told Mark that he will use the situation to bring Goodell and whoever else he wants down. I just pray Nevada Supreme Court does the right thing.

The league knew about the Email issue in regards to Gruden and of course didn’t say a word about it then because they knew it wouldn’t of had nearly the same impact..those POS WAITED till we were 3-0 first and then little by little started to leak the Emails and start busting Mark’s balls because they wanted Mark to fire Gruden..they knew if they gave Davis and Gruden any kind of head’s up about what was coming it would give Gruden time to address it with the players/staff and put it all behind them and get right back to business..none of those NFL media clowns could get ONE player to badmouth him..well except the has been’s at ESPN
