I disagree with Jeremy saying that “Bob Ryan put it best”. My dad has been a die hard Red Sox fan his whole life and has been defending Bill Buckner for 33 years. He has always blamed the relief pitching for losing that game 6. I thought that Bob Ryan’s comment in that interview sounded ignorant. Bob Ryan’s comment, in my opinion, only applied to “bandwagon” fans that were uneducated and simply listened to the media place blame on Bill Buckner. No true fan ever blamed Bill Buckner. I hope he and his family knew that he had a lot of defenders/supporters here, like my dad, for many many years.

I wish espn would give Jeremy Schaap a daily talk show instead of the garbage that they have on their now.

Bill Buckner could hit with the best of them. He was to a degree a beefed up Rod Carew.

The only player who had more hits than Bill Buckner from the 70s-80s was Pete Rose. That tells you all you need to know about Buckner’s ability. Plenty of players made and will continue to make errors in big spots. But why the media decided to be disgusting and vicious to this man is beyond me. From what I heard, he was a very nice person too and obviously a borderline hall of famer. RIP Bill. Gone too soon.

It's always a shame that such a great player had to deal with that. In every game, there will be winners and losers just like in life. Just recently Steve Batman the fan who interfered on that foul ball that could have sent the Cubs to the WS. He is now in hiding and his life was forever changed by idiot fans and media. Bill Buckner is my Mr Cub having watched him as a Cub from 1977-1984.
