When he became an announcer, he used to drive me nuts, too "over the top". But, after a while, he grew on me because it was all so genuine, and authentic. He was going to enjoy his job and life and take everyone with him for the ride. We should all enjoy our vocations as much as he did. You will be missed, big guy!

My wife and I met him in 2019 on a bike ride. He didn't "know us from Adam's cat", the way one of you said. BUT, he treated us like royalty. Great man. Sorry to see him go.

I could listen to Bill talk all day! He was not only interesting, but also approached everything he did with great enthusiasm. A truly genuine and caring man. Even with all of the challenges he faced, he ALWAYS found joy in life. I wish we could all be more like him.

Has someone who has lived in Oregon most of their life and growing up a trailblazer fan since the age of seven I can’t even begin to explain how much it hurts that we’ve lost Bill Walton. I know the rest of the world loves him, but as a Portlander for 25 years, and a bit of a progressive dance to my own drum type of lady he was pretty special and someone I looked up to with great admiration. I know myself and many others in Portland Oregon today are caring with them a heavy heart. Rest in peace, Bill Walton you weren’t just a great basketball player you were an awesome person. I may not have had the basketball skills, but I definitely share with you your political views and your kind caring about the means of others sometimes at the sacrifice of one’s own needs. Heaven just gained one awesome deadhead.

As a kid in 1986, I remember Bill Walton when he was on the Celtics and later on NBA on NBC then on ESPN. The impression that he made on us fans, both poor and rich, transcended class and walk of life alike. Wherever he has now gone, he must of been welcomed with thousands of warm voices.

Hated UCLA, as a Sixer fan hated Portland Trailblazers but you could not deny this guy’s talent and zest for giving it everything he had both on and off the court. I wish I had insight to what he knew about the whole Patty Hearst disappearance as he was very tight with that crew as they made their way cross country.

San Diego native That’s what the world seen but to us he was our neighbor. He did his own shopping. He went to concerts. If there was a good reason to be there he would be there. He would just donate his checks to charities. When they dedicated his statue of him and his bike…. He rode his bike to the ceremony. He was always around, you couldn’t miss him….. he loved his hometown and we loved him. Bill Walton was a San Diegan

1970 UCLA Pauley Pavilion my dad pointed to big red head freshman on sidelines, "He's the next Lew Alcindor." Certainly at UCLA he was every bit as good as Kareem. Shooting 21 or 22 in college finals might be greatest single game every played, and the year he won it all at Portland he was greatest player in NBA. Without injuries he might have been top 10 all-time great with multiple rings.

When I got the news that Bill Walton had passed I was heartbroken. He was a guy you could,nt help but love because of who he was as an all around basketball player and person. I watched him destroy all my favorite teams in college as well as the pro,s. He played fundamental basketball and me growing up in NYC I loved flair and showmanship. He ripped my heart out when Portland destroyed the 76er,s for the championship. The 76er,s was a band of all stars that I felt was unbeatable, DrJ. McGinnis, Collins, Choclate Thunder Dawkins, Moe Cheeks, World B Free, Bobby Jones, Jellybean Bryant, Caldwell Jones, on and on, so many guys I just knew this was going to be a slaughter. The psychological game actually started on the layup lines with 76er,s and their acrobatic dunks. The games were very competitive but they killed my team with basic basic basketball even though Dr J was dunking all over them. With all that we could,nt break his spirit. He lived his life as a free spirit that I loved about him. His favorite quote during televised games was "Stop messing around and throw it down big man" Gonna miss you man.

@meboy3513 He did speak his mind, and he also spoke VERY VERY highly of Jokic, in case you didn't know. In fact, Bill himself, put Jokic in the same sentence as himself. And Bill was a 3x player of the year, 2x National Champion, and a 2x NBA Champion, NCAA Hall of Fame, NBA Hall of Fame, and is in the Broadcast Hall of Fame. To say he wasnt that good shows how little you know, or think you know.
