Most teams would kill to have a Luka on their team to get them through multiple series in the playoffs, and the Mavs traded him away. I know that you guys are looking at this situation from a basketball point of view. I did the same thing at first. It just doesn't make any frigging sense. But to really understand what is going on in reality, you have to look at it from other points of view. To do this you have to really look at the protagonists of this "drama.' 1. Luka 2..The Players. 3. The Numbers. 4. The Money. 5. Dallas Owners. 6. Texas Politics. 7. The Fans. Evidently, the fans were the last thing to be considered, and I am talking about the Mavs fans. The Lakers fans, on the other hand, should just say "Thank you, whoever is responsible for this". I know AD is a great player but... please, you know you got the better deal by far. Luka's conditioning and the "culture" were Nico's excuses. The culture is just BS because the players and the fans both loved Luka. The numbers are a very important factor and I am not talking about the stats. Luka, with his poor conditioning, managed to take the Mavs to the finals last season while scoring more points than anyone else(including the MVP and runner-up). But those are not the numbers that really matter. Money was a big issue according to Nico in his explanation. The Mavs really didn't want to deal with Luka's supermax at the end of the season. But, would that really matter if they were able to reach the finals once again? The Mavs are in the same position as last year and have Clay Thompson now. This is in fact about "Money" but not just NBA Money. NBA money is just pocket change for the new Dallas owners. Money and Politics is what all this drama is all about. Dallas owners do not care about basketball. For you to understand this, you must look at what has been going on in Texas for the last few years. Legalized gambling wants the Texas market. The new Mavs owners have spent millions lobbying to bring casinos to the "Lone Star State" So far they have been unsuccessful. So this is just a chess move in their quest to do just that. The NBA will not allow a successful franchise to move to another city. The Mavs are (please correct me if am wrong) one of the top 5 franchises in the NBA right now. If the Mavs start sucking and the fandom dwindles, then the owners have another tool to pressure the Texas legislation to support legalized gambling in Texas. If they don't get what they want, they will just threaten to move their team to where? Yes, you guessed it right. "Vegas Baby!!" Either they are successful by bringing legalized gambling to Texas or they get to do something that's inevitable: bringing an NBA team to "Sin City". Inevitable, I say, because that is happening, an NBA team is coming to Vegas one way or the other. But, what do I know! I am just a stupid Mavs fan (or should I say ex fan)who will start watching all lakers games from now on and is about to go check if the Lakers 77 jersey is already available to order. PS: By the way, the Rockets are also owned by casino money. just think about it.

Saying that the Lakers got bad is crazy. People seem to forget that Luka carried a bunch of nobodies with only Brunson in the WCF. He carried the Mavs last year with only Kyrie. They are good role players, but that's about it. Luka carried nobodies besides Kyrie whether you like it or not. AD has been injured so much that Lakers knows how to play without him. They are 4-1 this season without him. Does Lakers need big man? Yes. Does trading AD for Luka made them bad? NO!
