Why was the public kept in the dark when Article 13.3 of the Anti-Doping Program clearly states that all provisional suspensions under the Tennis Anti-Doping Program must be publicly announced? @3nonva in April there was a similar case for another tennis player and no one was shocked: "It is a good thing that Marco Bortolotti has been fully exonerated and has not served a single day of disqualification. In the urine of the Emilian doubles player (n.106 in the ATP ranking of the specialty) traces of clostebol were found, an anabolic sadly known for the State Doping of the GDR in the 70s and 80s. However, the ITIA lightning procedure established that Bortolotti was not at fault and had not even committed any negligence. For this reason, the misadventure cost him just 440 euros and 16 ATP points, the loot pocketed at the Lisbon Challenger last October, during which the anti-doping control took place. But the story deserves to be told for at least two reasons. First of all, because the news was totally ignored by the Italian media (while it was reported by several foreign newspapers). Secondly, because the impressive speed with which it was resolved is surprising, in contrast to the slowness of many similar cases....." In any case, Bortolotti was granted the acquittal formula of “no fault or negligence”. This means that he was not at fault, and he did not even commit any carelessness or distractions. It would be interesting to know the details, but evidently they were considered too personal. There are many sentences with blacked out points, so it is not that sensational. Those of Dayana Yastremska (which in fact contained rather intimate details) and - more recently - of Simona Halep had several passages to protect privacy, so it is legitimate that Bortolotti enjoyed the same treatment. What is striking is the speed with which the ITIA archived the case: the sentence is dated February 7, just eight days after Bortolotti became aware of the fact.

The ATP has a history of brushing doping violations of their top players under the rug. There is a zero tolerance policy on both tours which means it doesn’t matter how small the amount in a players system, it is immediate suspension from the tour. Look at Troicki, Gasquet, and Cilic. The WTA seems to knows this look at Sharapova and Halep. The fact that Sinner failed two drug test for steroids and got no suspension at all even to investigate his innocence is absolutely unacceptable and a double standard and this is coming from a major Sinner fan.

He was tested in March when it was assumed that the illegal substance had disappeared from his blood. It turned out that it had not. And he is not the only one. Many players were allowed to do everything in the "Finally take down Djokovic" mission.

He’s dirty. His wins are now suspect. You need gobs of that stuff to make it into a drug test, even if there were lesions on Sinner. A cut on a physio’s hands needed gobs of the stuff? We’ve all got cuts on our hands. Does what they’re saying make any sense? No. Besides, in order for drugs to be absorbed via the skin, then appear in the blood, you need greater surface area, how often you are exposed to it, whether the area was covered with a seran wrap to increase heat on the skin, which will dilate the capillaries to absorb the drug, and more. Bottom line is that drug absorption via the skin is not that easy. Minuscule amount showing up means nothing. Cheaters know the pharmacokinetics of a substance and will take it so that by the time the drug test is done, the drug is washed out of the system by the kidneys or by liver. Often times they get caught because the substance is removed slower than expected due to other factors, like drug interactions, which slows down the kidneys or the liver, allowing the substances to circulate in the body longer than expected. Also, unless the stuff used for the finger cut is pure steroids-and I can’t think of any reason a pure anabolic steroid would even be in a product used for a finger cut-the banned substance would only be one of the ingredients, which already minimizes its ability to appear in the blood… However, if the substance was taken in enough quantity, and to a very large surface area and applied often enough for that thing to show up in his drug test, it might be possible for it to show up in a drug test. This whole story by Sinner is full of malarkey. AND I find it highly suspicious that Sinner is Darren Cahill’s second high profile player who tested positive for banned substance. This is why I think Sinner’s highly suspect for using this stuff, and not by accident. Minuscule amount in the drug test wouldn’t enhance his performance? There’s minuscule amount when the drug test is done, cuz the bulk of it had already washed out of his system. Do other cheaters caught have large amount of a banned substance in the drug test? It’s always trace amount. Why? Cheaters know the pharmacokinetics of a substance and will take it so that by the time the drug test is done, the drug is washed out of the system by the kidneys or by the liver. Often times they get caught because the substance is removed slower than expected due to other factors, like drug interactions, which slows down the kidneys or the liver, or illness can alter the removal process, allowing the substances to circulate in the body longer than expected.

U got a great conspiracy theory going on 😆! Seriously why do you think Jannik would be given special treatment? Lol he just only won one grand slam so far and he doesn’t have that big of a celebrity pull like Federer, Nadal or even Djokovic. He was tested twice as it is a practice in any sport to make sure that it wasn’t false positive. Second test is like a confirmatory test. Further when someone tests positive they simply don’t ban a player. There’s investigation and thorough interviews with the player and team that take place. Ofcourse if the team is not going to cooperate they don’t have any choice but to ban the players until they can figure out what was the reason for positive test. Sinner and his team cooperated with ITA and the issue was resolved. Im not trying to defend Sinner here, but I doubt a player like him would ruin his budding career this way. Why all the hate towards him? You going to doubt his achievements purely based on this? Just grow up if it’s that easy to win tournaments then why so many players wouldn’t want to go down that path??

Because banned substances aren't necessarily illegal/dangerous substances, and it doesn't necessarily mean that the substance has no purpose other than sports doping. For example, there are inhalers that you could give to your kid who has asthma, but they would not be allowed for certain athletes because they contain steroids. It would be ridiculous to place restrictions on people who come into physical contact with him. The player should be responsible for what they consume and nothing else

The case of Sinner is similar to that of another Italian tennis player, Marco Bortolotti. The 33-year-old, who had a best ranking of number 355 in the world in singles and 102 in doubles, tested positive for anabolic steroids in October 2023 during the Lisbon Challenger tournament. The positivity was confirmed by counter-analysis in February 2024. Bortolotti did not contest the results of the tests but provided an explanation to justify the accidental ingestion of the substance. "The player's explanation was credible," explains the International Tennis Integrity Agency, the same body that ruled Sinner innocent due to the absence of intent or negligence. Bortolotti's performances in the Lisbon tournament were cancelled and the player lost the prizes he had won in Portugal: the same treatment reserved for Sinner, stripped of points and prizes obtained in Indian Wells, where he tested positive.

He used it, it stayed longer than expected.

For me, the $$$ riding on this makes Sinner's excuse re doping seem a little implausible. $$$ hundreds of millions on the line, but members of his professional team just trot off to the drugstore, close their eyes, & pick a medication? Especially when clostebol issues are well known. If that were the case--that there's virtually no medication protocols within players' teams--I'd expect a lot more positive doping tests, since MANY prescribed/OTC meds contain banned substances. Instead what makes more sense is that players & their teams have prescribed & proscribed lists of meds--for x ailment, always choose ONLY THESE meds. NEVER use these meds. It's hard to imagine team members for the highest ranked players in the world are simply sent to the pharmacy & told "pick one".

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Comparing this to other players makes no sense every situation is different . It makes no sense punishing a player because a player in the past has. The incredibly small amount proves it was an accident and the whole reason it was kept secret I believe was for it to not blow up and for false accusations to be made. It’s funny how players who have commented including Nick and Shapovalov are only remembered for their terrible attitudes on the court

You *do* understand that just there was a billionth of a gram in his system when they tested him, doesn’t mean there wasn’t much more before right? Over 50% of all clostebol positive tests are Italian. This is because it is sold OTC in Italy. You’d think that Italians would be more careful about “accidentally” using it, right? Well, it’s actually probably just because of the fact it’s OTC, it gives the players the perfect excuse if they do test positive. This is the same substance that Fernando Tatis (MLB) was suspended 82 games for.

@@Mark-ut5oq How much OTC was in the test of Tatis when he got suspended? That's the whole point. You can't know how much more there was before, so you can't say there was a lot. Also if there's a lot, it doesn't vanish quickly, while these guys have frequent enough tests to verify that. Athletes who are suspended are found with way larger amounts. That's why they get suspended, because there's no way they might have assumed by mistake such large quantities. Scientists are saying that Sinner's explanations are plausible, not ignorant people like us. So stop making your own faulty arguments.
