There's always a risk going 'all-in' and renting a 40 year old former mvp quarterback. In the off-season, the Jets signed the 'shiny toys' (receivers and running backs) and mostly ignored the offensive line. This being 2 years after taking a quarterback #2 overall. How much better Zach Wilson had become since working with Rodgers and learning from him. How perfect Zach Wilson was to simply steer the ship as your “85 Bears” like Jets defense dominated everyone from their side of the football. the problem there are only handful of good coaches - that what makes purdy good is the coach - even brady would not have been what he is now with out belicheck - brady would have failed on any other team - even mahomes would have failed if he did not have the andy ried

No because Purdy's success is due to him having a super team built around him where he is only asked to throw screens and 3-5 yard slants. Wilson, Lance, Fields etc... are asked to carry an entire offense. If Purdy and Wilson swapped places the Niners would still be 3-0 and the Jets would be just as bad

I don't see him display anything that would require a high football IQ, half his passes are behind the line of scrimmage to Deebo and CMC and then they take off break 10 tackles and go for 50+ yards, and the other half are just 1 read passes across the middle. Anytime Purdy has to go through progressions or is asked to make a throw under pressure or deep, it's a horrible near-INT Btw that isn't a diss on Purdy, I think he's excellent at what he does....but what he does is game management just like Jimmy G did. He isn't asked to do anything special, all he's asked to do is give the ball to CMC/Deebo/Aiyuuk and not turn it over. People conflate that with him being an elite passer, he isn't, he's an elite game manager in a very good situation. That isn't the same as a franchise QB like Lawrence/Burrow/Herbert/Hurts/Mahomes/Allen etc... And Fields/Wilson/Lance were asked to be franchise QBs, so they had a lot more to liveup to than Purdy. Saying Purdy is gonna change the draft process or that he's "better" than Fields/Wilson/Lance is a lot like saying a 2nd grader is better at Math than an advanced physics major because they passed their math test and the physics major failed there's: it's two completely different evaluations and standards.

@lordlubu3029 There are reasons why the niners kept Purdy over Jimmy g and over tray lance. Jimmy was a good game manager when you asked him to do certain throws. He just couldn't make it and he threw a lot more interceptions than purdy. We've yet to see how well pretty can do when he has to make a throw to win the game. As far as Lance, he just couldn't learn the system and made way too many mistakes. Unfortunately, I think he's going to be a bust for any team. Purdy is not a top tier. Quarterback but he does understand football to a higher level than Lance and he's less error prone than Jimmy g. There's a reason why he's starting for the 49ers and the other guys are gone

Any team without a somewhat of a plan b at QB is taking an extreme risk if they expect Superbowl..Injuries happen and worse if you don't have a proper contingency plan on your most premium positions, that's bad on the GM. Rex is right. For the immediate foreseeable future the offense has to design plays for Zach, but truly define their philosophy as a running team - they need to run and can so how can they run it down the opponents throat even if opposing defenses are expecting it? A constant carousel of Hall, Cook, Izzy, and Carter with inventive screens and trick plays? The Patriots were dominant and there were MANY games under Brady where it was screens, short passes, and running until something deep opened up while the defense kept the opponent to 17 or less. It can be done. Leverage Hardman's speed along with the abilities of Conklin and Ruckert. They also need to continue to hone that elite defense. Beat teams into submission with crushing defense and a relentless short game.

He was drafted second overall because he made that one cool throw during workouts. Unbelievable. Zach had only one good year in college. It was a Covid year so no crowds. His team had a cupcake schedule so he never learned to play under pressure and/or from behind. And worse, he was never voted team captain. Joe Douglas should be fired solely for making that pick.

As a Jets fan, I don’t think there has ever been a more glaring indictment of just how awful the QB evaluation process is by GMs/scouts/coaches than the fact that Zack Wilson was drafted SECOND OVERALL while a guy like Jalen Hurts was drafted 53rd. Hurts balled out everywhere he’s been in multiple schools in the toughest conferences. Yet he falls in the draft to a point where even the “experts“ thought was too high. Meanwhile Zach Wilson is drafted 2nd overall being the exact opposite a Jalen Hurts resume. It’s absolutely maddening that all these scouts/executives/analysts still have a job after that type of stuff.

It starts with your offensive line if your offensive line, not moving nobody off the line than you can't run the football. If the offensive line can't pass block, then Zach Wilson going to get pounded that's why the Jets are struggling to move the football.

Rex Ryan said it....At this point, the only thing that could POSSIBLY work is that Zach Wilson is unleashed and let him play as a gunslinger which he definitely showed he has the tools to. He's got a quick release and a strong arm. If we want to even have a chance to make the playoffs, we have to go all-in on Zach. Given a miracle that Wilson cleans up his weaknesses, really soon. Sorry to say it, but this is what it has come down to. If I were GM Douglas and Coach Salah, I'd give Wilson the green light, all of them. Give him more vertical looks. Move him outside the pocket. But don't make him run because I don't think he can withstand the hits. If anything, give him a shot of confidence. I know it's risky. He might throw 1,000 INTS. But, he might not. He actually might be decent. I'm still hoping against a lost season, but forgive me, I didn't choose to be a Jets fan, the Jets chose me. I'm hoping we go out make it competitive and have fun tonight. What do you think?
