It’s more than that, Jordan had been out of the league for 2 years and came back to get a slice of ownership on the team. The team was struggling and MJ had an itch to scratch to see if he could still play. The guy had tendinitis in both knees, was not in basketball shape, and was just competing for the love of the game, not championships. Even then when he played the team was still on pace to get to the playoffs, and if he doesn’t get injured halfway through the season (due to a meniscus tear no doubt because of the tendinitis) they probably do make the playoffs and even possibly make some noise. The wizards situation is nowhere near comparable to the lakers now
