to be fair, Larry Brown *HATED* playing rookies, and he was gunning for a chip in 04 so Melo would have been the 12th man on that roster and coach knew he would be a distraction. Therefore they picked the player who they thought would contribute 3-5 years down the road...they were hoping for 'Sheed without the attitude, they got Bargnani without a jumper

Greg E To be fair though Larry did play numerous different rookies, and also helped perfecte the game of A.I. while in Philly. And also Larry, and the whole Sixers organization actually now that I think about it straight up got fucked over by the league (we all know how much David Stern would literally sabotage or at least attempt to sabotage anything A.I. was involved with as he hated Allen). A.I. isn't the only person he sabotaged or attempted to sabotage as well, he among many others also did it toT-Mac, Ray Allen etc.

Carlos Chaves you buggin, that Detroit team had scoring droughts so bad they could've rebuilt the whole city with all those bricks. All they needed was a scorer. He would've been under great tutelage by rick Carlisle, or larry Brown and any immature tendency he had would have been taken care of because they were winning. You sitting here thinking not a good fit because you watch to much espn and don't see the bigger picture. What happened when a older chauncey was traded to denver for iverson? They went from not being able to make it out the first round to pushing kobe and the lakers in the western conference finals.

Kyle Korver in the second round set a record for 3 pt% in a season and became arguably a top 5 3pt shooter. Jose Calderon (undrafted) set the record for best ft% in a season with 98% while being a solid role player in his prime. This draft was definitive for the modern NBA.

Melo was so disrespected...a freshman leading and dominating the 2003 ncaa season not getting drafted #2 is idiotic. Him in Detroit would've been solid. Him having to compete with tashaun for the 3 spot in practice would've been things that make a 2 or 3peat happen..we'd be talking about Melo in a whole nother light

This draft was strong at the top with guys like LeBron,Melo,Bosh and Wade but it had many other good players and that also makes this draft a top 2 draft of all times. You have guys like David West who was an all-star with New Orleans, Chris Kaman was a solid center for a bunch of years and also made the all-star team with the Clippers,Kirk Hinrich played on team USA,Josh Howard also another all-star with the Dallas but injures cut his career short. Mo Williams and Kyle Korver also made All-star teams. Boris Diaw,Luke Ridnour,Nick Collison,TJ Ford, Kendrick Perkins,Leandro Barbosa,Carlos Delfino,Steve Blake,Zaza Pachulia, James Jones ( 3x champion with LeBron ),Matt Bonner all had staying power in the NBA and were effective in different way in their pretty long nba careers.

4 players impacted teams...Bron revived the cavalier franchise, Wade county was born, Melo made the nuggets extra crispy, and Darko destroyed a potential dynasty. You know Detroit would have won 2 or 3 with him.
