Floyd was 27-0 with 21 knockouts when he fought at 130 pounds and and defended his world title 8 times. Anyone who is confused that he would be referred to as power puncher should know that he had multiple hand injuries and then moved up 3 weight classes to get to 147 to chase a fight against Oscar De La Hoya, which turned out to be the ticket to his success. He usually fought at a weight disadvantage against fighters from this point on in his career and adopted a defensive style where he relied on single quick straight rights or left hooks and counter punches. He still had enough power to stun and hurt opponents, which is why fighters rarely rushed in wildly against him for extended periods of time. There's a reason why world champion boxers way behind on points look like they gave up in the last quarter of a fight and it wasn't because they have a loser's mentality - they have eaten sharp counters for all of their mistakes and didn't like how it felt.
