I would argue that Lagway is better against a better defense than Mertz. If a play breaks down, Lagway has the scrambling ability that Mark doesn’t have to get out of it. Mertz isn’t getting out of a 2nd or 3rd in long with his legs, only his arm. Lagway gives you either option

This is what I keep trying to explain to people. Game managers are for well built established teams that can control the offensive line and have good defenses. Florida has none of the above. They are going to have score a lot of points to win games this year. Lagway, even with his inexperience, is still their best shot at winning games because of his big play ability. This is a developing team, so a talented qb that needs developing is perfect. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Lagway didn’t look great, but they also played him for like two series in the first quarter (and for some reason in a 2 minute drill, like that was the proper time to insert him) and then later on in the second half so it was hard for him to get rhythm. I want him in there regardless of if he looks great or if he’s throwing picks, either way he is learning, Mertz starting does nothing of the team imo. We’re still not going to win much, and it just delays Lagways’s development. If they are gonna start Mertz though, I would rather just redshirt Lagway at this point. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Mertz is good, but at the end of the day he’s just not going to get it done. This isn’t the 2000’s anymore where freshman just automatically sit. This is the “put in who makes sense/who is better” era. Lagway makes more sense concerning the future and is already a better qb based off of ability alone. Ok so the o-line sucks, throw quick screen passes, use slants, check it to the running back, qb/hb draw. Once the pressure alleviates some, Lagway can let it fly down the field. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@@die-eggocamaney6967 Yes a freshman qb got intercepted, one of which was a heave at the end of a half, (not to mention he was unable to establish any rhythm because Napier was just yanking him and Mertz out after every drive). Is that supposed to be a gotcha or refute something I said? I want him in there regardless. He’s gonna throw picks (as he did) at times, make big plays, take some hits, but most importantly learn the game and grow. Additionally, even with his inexperience and youth he gives them the best shot at winning because of his downfield ability. Mertz is a game manager, which does nothing for a team with a bad defense and bad offensive line. This team is bad and is in rebuild mode. It’s the perfect time for a developing talented qb to be in and learn the game. Bench Mertz. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@@jayanderson7508 Besides the shoe incident our defense was absolutely horrific, they actually might have been worse that year than last year. We put up a lot of points against Texas a&m, LSU, Alabama and still lost, unacceptable. Lsu was terrible that year no way they should’ve even been in that game to begin with let alone put up near 40 points. Texas a&m was really good too but we should’ve still beaten them, Alabama fine, I accept that loss, but that should’ve been the only one, and we should have made the playoff at least.

Probably the only time in history I’ve ever disagreed with Tebow. DJ is an all around better QB than Mertz. Mertz isn’t terrible, he’s an NFL caliber QB but his athleticism and playmaking ability just doesn’t compare. I think Florida should implement a dual QB system for certain in game scenarios and interchange depending on the drive.

Tim Tebow would not have won a championship as a freshman. Florida needed Chris Leak. Chris Leak had the experience of the SEC and playing College Football. DJ Lagway wasn't going to be the answer for Billy Napier. Napier isn't a QB developer and he is not a good play caller. Nothing but confusion from this video. Tebow should have spoken up. He was not the better QB in 2006. Yes. He was a playmaker changing up the pace for Florida. Similar to Percy Harvin.
