The Mullen take is revisionist history. Not only were these same people saying he wasn’t recruiting well enough to win consistently, but Mullen also didn’t want to be the coach. Colorado from the very beginning of it's football program has had problems recruiting talented players. The location of the state of Colorado makes it difficult to recruit top tier athletes. This is a historic fact that is not Coach Sanders' fault. Coach Sanders has been a hall of fame level player at every level of his football career. Coach Sanders is doing all he can to recruit top tier level talent in order to make Colorado a winning football program. It is difficult to recruit top tier talent to Colorado. I have met Coach Sanders on occasion and he is good guy. It is not Coach Sanders' fault that Colorado geographically in a bad location. It is difficult to get top tier talent to come to Colorado. When Coach Sanders goes to the transfer portal to get players to upgrade Colorado football program he is doing all that he can.
