Dabo Swinney: Clemson knew they had the better team vs. Alabama | SC with SVP

Dabo Swinney joins SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt as he explains the confidence the Clemson Tigers had going into their CFP National Championship victory against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Swinney says the ACC prepared Clemson well for Alabama. He continues to explain that the Clemson seniors wanted to prove they were the best class ever and they left no doubt with a 44-16 victory. He says the offensive and defensive lineman owned the trenches against Alabama, which was key to the win. Dabo says the Clemson Tigers have been "an incredibly consistent program for the last eight or nine years" as they are also great men off the field.

I always felt in my gut throughout the season that even though Bama's offense was playing well, but that their defense looked lucky to have it's offense put enough points on the board to take away the attention off their true porous, ineptness. Absolutely! I wouldn't be shocked to see these teams meet again 8n the chip next year with the opposite result. Everyone is talking about Trevor the QB, and last time it was Deshaun. But I want to see how Dabo does when he's missing all of those defensive studs: Wilkins, Ferrel, Mullen, Joseph, Lamar, Bryant, Lawrence etc.... both of his championship teams featured a lot of upperclassmen leadership on defense. You can talk all you want about how deep they are, but his seniors this year were a special group and I don't see him replacing them with some 4 and 5 star "kids" right off the bat. Clemson is the only good team in the ACC! They went through it without injuries. Can't do that in the SEC. Alabama took Clemson too lightly and got behind and then looked confused. But that's factually incorrect. Why're people actively lying to themselves? Clemson doesn't have the better roster, they just lucked out on Alabama playing at their floor like they did against Georgia and having the refs never call at least six blatant pass-interference penalties. The referees alone gave Clemson at least a 14 to 21 point swing, and then when you factor in Stevie fucking Wonder playing for the first quarter and Locksley being a literal autist, Alabama gave Clemson another 21 point swing (as a conservative estimate). Clemson didn't outplay Bama or anything like that, they played exactly like how any sane person thought they were going to play and Alabama completely dropped the ball for no reason. It was just a repeat of the SEC Championship where Alabama played like complete dog shit and everything that could go wrong, went wrong. So let's stop with this asinine false narrative of "Clemson just outplayed Alabama." No, they didn't. Alabama never showed up and the referees were dog shit (per usual). They won, good for them, but they didn't play Alabama at their best, otherwise the game wouldn't have even been close.

That's the difference here... There is no defense in Oklahoma. Sure, their offense is on point, but it won't do you a lick of good against the best D-line in the country. Oklahoma would have been beat nearly as bad as Notre Dame did.

Huge Bama fan here, Clemson played the best game of their lives tonight. Bama looked very sloppy and we did a lot of stuff to ourselves. Not taking away anything from Clemson but I don’t think the better team won tonight. We’ll see them again next year in a shootout which I think we’ll win. The MVP should go to their D coordinator. Our play calling was atrocious I think our OC head is already in Maryland
