He scored 20 free kicks for Barca in five seasons, while Messi when he began taking them regularly from the 11/12 season onwards scored 50 in 10 seasons. In fact, Messi in just 3 seasons between 16-17 to 18/19 scored 20 free kicks for Barca, which was the same amount as Ronaldinho managed in those five seasons at Barca.

I agree with you. I am a Real Madrid fan and a CR7 fan. Some of the free kicks should be taken by other players. It all depends on the location of the free kick. When it comes to the penalty kiks, he is a really good at penalty kiks. I think that he should retired from the national team after this Euro. His time is over. Funny, I do agree Ronaldo should not always take a free kick. However: The last time Manchester United were to score directly from a free-kick was Cristiano Ronaldo against Norwich in the Premier League on the 16th of April 2023.22 Ronaldo scored another great one in October for al Nassr. In fact I did see other Portuguese players take a free kick with Ronaldo on the pitch. That is usually when the free kick is on the right handside of the goal. Usually it was Rafael Guerreiro who took them. But he never scored. Also Bruno has taken a few shots while CR7 was absent. He never scored either.

I’m loyal to my team and not any individual talent and it breaks my heart to see such a gifted squad being held hostage by an aging, deluded superstar. Thats always easiest ball to defend it takes skill to bend the ball or pass t into corner. Fact that hes the strker means if hes taking free kick theres no threat ni box to head ball in. And moreover, in 2019 during the nation's league group stage, Ronaldo asked to be dismissed from national duty to better focus on adapting to juventus. They gave him permission. Portugal played for almost a year without him, and they played the best, most fluid team football that I've ever seen Portugal play since 2008. Including a win vs italy which was the first and only time Portugal have beaten Italy for over 60 years. And they did so WITHOUT Cris. Ended up winning the competition and Bernardo was the mvp of the tournament and Ruben Dias was motm in the final, when he was still playing for Benfica. If he had any sense of honor he would have retired from national team after that nation's league. He won it, would have been the perfect send off for him instead of embarrassing himself as he's been doing since. And would have opened up space for many other players that could by now be on an upper level in terms of competing for a starting spot on the 11, like leão, felix, jota, ramos and even neto or beto (ex Udinese, now in Everton) could already be maintains on the national team.

Yesterday’s performance against Slovenia is a prime example that he’s just not the player that he used to be and he’s longer the difference maker for Portugal. He 100% showed his 39 year old age as he was struggling to score he couldn’t get on the end of crosses in a way he did when he was in his prime and every time his teammate tried to feed him the ball in the box, a defender was the first player to the ball over him. What made me laugh at the same time confused me was his antics and how selfish he was because every free kick that they had he was always taking it and I had no issue with him taking the penalty and then scoring it in the shootout after he missed, he needs to stop taking free kicks and let somehow else have a chance in it, no one including the manager will say anything to him about it since he’s Ronaldo and they have to bow down to him and you can’t show him who’s boss. He was so desperate to score. Apparently there’s a written rule that he can play 120 minutes and not get subbed off when he had a mental breakdown and the game was too difficult for him. This is part of why Portugal’s problems haven’t changed because they need to drop him, but they won’t do that as it’s going to upset the fanbase and they’ll blame the manager for not playing him if they lose as he is holding the team back with his selfishness and ego. The fact that they have such a talented squad yet they’re still relying on a 39 year old man playing every minute of every game in a major tournament when he’s completed finished is just laughable. Someone like Bruno Fernandes is supposed to be in his prime, but he’s not treated as if he’s their best player, we’re still waiting for Bernardo Silva to produce his best form when playing outside of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City because he looks lost for Portugal and has only scored 1 goal for them in a major tournament, Rafael Leao who’s a “world class winger” and potentially the face of the team after Ronaldo, there were moments where yes he was inconsistent, he was their most dangerous player going forward and looked as if he would create something and he was subbed off in the 2nd half, Joao Felix is the 4th most expensive player in the world and he doesn’t even play, Diogo Jota as good as he’s been in the limited minutes that he played in so far and he should be starting for them in attack, he’s still on the bench and would probably be first choice for them in attack if he did a better job at staying fit. At Portugal, everything is all about Ronaldo and that’s going to be the case with them until someone steps up. Roberto Martinez as the manager shouldn’t have to feel the pressure to always start him and leave him on the pitch as there’s a feeling that he’s only playing because of his name and past achievements and what’s best for the team is that if he starts and doesn’t play well again, then sub him off.
