You have to be good enough at a point that will prevail/invalidate his game. Pereira already faced opponents with better wrestling (who tried to use it against him) than his, still came out on top because in the sum of the equation his game was stronger.

I don't think Izzy beats Poatan tbh. In his fight against Jan he was getting caught with the check left hook on multiple occasions and got a lot of his leg kicks checked. I can see something similar happening with Pereira but the fight ending via ko/stoppage. I don't think Izzy wins this one but he's more than welcome to prove me and the doubters wrong.

People need to face the facts. Alex is the first double glory world champ and fought numerous former world champion so his resume is not bad at ll.. Izzy had a big advntage to fights due to his reach level that none of his opponents could match but Alex has probably the same reach if not bigger. They are primarly both stand up strikers so I don’t really see Adesanya going for a ground game since he will put up his power into something he has in his skillset for a long time and not putting all the trust against the hardest challenge on something that you didn’t rely on that much. On the other side Alex is a long time training partner with Glover which could give him excellent support for drilling that ground game if so. He has, lethal power in hands, knes, kicks and his timing is top tier level too. I would really like to see him one more fight before that title shot to let him adapt a little bit more to MMA but I can say that they BOTH improved a lot since their last fight, so the chances are really 50/50, I just see them on the same level overall. We all needed Alex to step in the game to shake with the division and he really came for it so I’m excited about his future fights! Alex with the timing and lethal power that made most of his opponents unconsious and Izzy with experience in the game and high battle IQ. Open for discussion!

Seeing both of Izzy's and Pereira's path in UFC since they joined makes me wonder: Did Izzy improve during his UFC time or he just met easier opponents than Glory's elite fighters at that time when he came to the UFC MW division, and he actually stagnated? Because that's basically what Pereira says in this interview - that Izzy's level dropped. And once Izzy got to the belt hes just proving he actually did.

However, MMA is different and Alex gotta get used to it, thats why I would say he should get one more fight before the title shot, face some grappler/wrestler to test the waters. With their matchup, Izzy is losing the advantage of longer reach and height that he always had in MW division because Alex is taller and probably with longer reach too and the fact that he is not afraid to get punched in order to land one could be lethal fo Izzy, because no matter what anybody says, Izzy doesnt have that kind of power he has and never faced someone with that kind of power in those shots.
