It’s not that the play is not reviewable, it’s that the flag or lack there of isn’t reviewable. So the best they can do is review if there was a safety and there was. There’s been no precedent of calling a flag after a play is resolved as well as removing a flag if one is called and the play has resolved.

The ref and the umpire (they both line up behind the QB) both were in position and looking at the QB when the foul happened. They just didn't throw the flags. Either they didn't want to impact the end of the game, or they were paid off by parties unknown, we'll never know which. But in the replays, you can see that both are in place and watching the QB when the facemask happened.

The league talks 24/7 about how they take "player safety" seriously. Well, violent facemasks like we saw last night are pretty dangerous to player safety the league talks. But if the facemask was called, a 15-yard penalty would've put Minnesota on the 20 with under a 1:30 to go in no time outs. Still would've needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie the game, a tall order, but stranger things have happened. Obviously, they can't change the rule about what is reviewable and not reviewable in the middle of the season. But an obviously missed call like that everyone can see on replay at home was the wrong has to be reviewable next season.
