I think Liverpool chose to sit back and counter. It’s probably the best approach given the momentum of Chelsea coming into the game, and also the international break (Liverpool had more key players non-European). But I must agree with Stevie, we’re not used to seeing Liverpool play that way at Anfield so it’s a bit of tough pill to swallow. However this might be the way to win the league. Make deliberate and less emotional decisions.

I loved Nicol as a player. He was one of the finest fullbacks ever to put on the red shirt. However, I'm not convinced by him as a match analyst. Slot has tweaked the way an excellent squad plays by adding defensive solidity. None of the attacking panache has been sacrificed in the process. It's just more measured football all round. I loved the blood and thunder under Klopp. He delivered some of the most memorable football of my lifetime. Slot has just added a level of sobriety to the play that can - and should I hope - deliver sustained success.

You do realize that players probably watch or at least might watch these videos and Nicol knows that? Ex players are often more critical of their clubs for that very reason. As when we start resting on our laureals we start to drop off with our performances. By all accounts from rest of the studio whenever Liverpool play and score Nicol is cheering on like a child, so he is definitely a Liverpool fanatic and the feedback he gives is always for sake of keeping any potential Liverpool player watching on their toes. If you watch Liverpool fc official channel you will see them doing the same although in a more rafined and positive way.

This is the best defensive play ive seen Liverpool put out ever since i started supporting this team. We didn't care about the possession. Long ball from kelleher to Chelsea's half, let them play, get the ball back, then we transition into attack. How did Steve not see this. Caicedo and Lavia got a good game because Liverpool's double pivot was to close down Palmer. He had less space to operate that's y he drifted to the flanks in 2ndH to receive the ball to open up play. Chelsea had two game plans, either to isolate Palmer through wide play with the wingers or drive ball through the middle to Jackson. It didn't work because Liverpool had no interest in possession. Chelsea were kept at arms length the whole game, it was comfortable pretty much the whole game. I never felt any nerves or that Chelsea would get a result at anytime.

Stevie is right, but at Feyenoord his squad needed a full season before they could play Slotball. But Slot would make sure they would win the first games.
