Curtis Jones played his way into Klopp's team multiple times, but just kept getting weird injuries. I think he's the reason Klopp didn't make midfield signings at certain points, which backfired because of those injuries.

There’s an interview with James Milner where he talks about a young talented Liverpool player who was on the wrong path. He mentions it in passing but quite sure he was talking about Curtis - thought it when I first heard it and have heard others say he was surely talking about Jones. In addition to the injuries it sounds like there were periods where he wasnt taking his duties seriously. Jurgen was always impressed with him though, always said he was never short on confidence.

Chelsea didn't win the tactical battle. They had more possession. That is not the same thing. They had very few chances for their possession. Liverpool beat Chelsea by winning the battle over Cole Palmer. They gave up other things to do it, and that meant Chelsea could control possession. But Liverpool clearly decided Chelsea having possession without Cole Palmer was better than trying to control possession but leaving Palmer open. And it worked.

You could still argue Slot won the tactical battle, as he realized with the way Chelsea currently like to play he wouldn't be able to control Palmer and use Curtis Jones and have the majority of the possession. So we set up deep allowing Chelsea to have the ball and then hit them on the counter. If Liverpool had the majority of the ball it allowed Chelsea to rush us on the counter, leaving us exposed - which is something similar to how Chelsea actually scored

It's partly because there's this group of fans (mostly FSGOUT backers) who are consistently demanding new signings every season and by acknowledging Curtis Jones' as an LFC level first team player, it goes against the narrative. This has been going on for years, ever since he first broke into the first team - "Jones is not good enough for LFC therefore we need a new signing". Liverpool have been impressive this season and the fact that Arne slot showed respect to chelsea by letting us have the ball and sitting Liverpool in a mid block actually surprised me . Arne slot knew chelsea were dangerous on the transition specially when teams leave space in behind . One thing I noticed was how chelsea was able to penetrate their 4-2-4 pressing especially how we were able to find a pass for lavia or caicedo especially in the first half.Sancho had a lot of 1v1 against Trent but this game was tailor made for mudryk tbh Trent defended well most of the time. A lot of teams are gonna find ways to play around the 4-2-4 pressing structure but credit to slot he has done a remarkable job at Liverpool so far .

@luke_will_taylorАй бұрын
Maresca tactics were spot on, but the personnel choices nullified his tactical tweaks. That left side definitely needs more threat in this Chelsea team. Too much of the attacking contribution relies on Jackson, Madueke, Palmer all on the right. Chelsea need to get that balance in threat right, like City does with their attacking midfielders. Wondering if KDH or Felix can offer more threat to the left side 8, especially when teams are tracking Palmer. Risky in defense but could have massive benefits in attack.
@kayceee6770Ай бұрын
Without Cucu and Fofana missing for the tie would have given Sancho more support than having Gusto a RB inverting at LB. Then both CB were pretty much ball playing CB's that like to make line breaking passes, only Fofana tries to breach space with a run. I reckon if Cucu and Fofana weren't suspended Enzo might have started to have more of a passing lane into the forwards- although Lavia and Caicedo were winning the midfield it couldn't be converted into better attacking positions for a Sancho one two, or passing into Palmer to get him in the game more. Palmer was played out the game by Liverpool quite well with only really 2 good passes made into Jackson in attacking areas, one being the goal, probably the 2nd assist to Jackson by Caicedo. Still a pretty good game for James and Lavia return but their exit probably cause a destabilisation since Gusto had to return to RB.

As a non match going fan of Liverpool, I can tell you that I absolutely love and rate Curtis Jones. However, there are things you have not mentioned about him. The one thing I hold against him is that sometimes he dwells on the ball too much when a faster pass or shot was required. For example, the goal that salah was offside for, he had 2 extra touches when he should have passed earlier. The Pen that was reversed by VAR, he had a clear chance to shoot the ball and yet again he took too long to allow the keeper to come out and close him... that is 2 goals right there where we could have a comfortable lead. But still, his work on the balance for the day was immaculate and I would have subbed Szoboszlai than him, if it were not a matter of fitness.

If curtis wasn't scouse he'd get far more praise from our own "fans" than what he deserves. Honestly can't believe he's even english with how good he is with the ball at his feet

There is no more underrated player in the league than Curtis Jones.

Liverpool was a better team, in making chances and defending. After Jones' winner, Arne Slot intentionally let Chelsea dominate the game but didn't lose control. And he was right to do it(preserving energy and avoiding biased decisions)

"1-1 Lead" probably the most sunday league phrase I have ever heard.

To your friend's point, I don't go to the matches and I love him. Do I start him if everyone's fit? On current form, probably, but it's not a slam dunk either way.

"Up here" actually isn't Curtis strong point. He's great at improvising, he can carry the ball, he can get stuck in defensively, he can even finish, but he very rarely times his passes correctly and he's not aware of his teammates making a run. If he had that, he'd be a superstar instead of a squad player.

Can you please tell me why the foul on Jota was not a red card??? If it was red in the Bournmouth vs ARSEnal game, why would it not be the same in this game????
@whatcanisay555Ай бұрын
in the chealse vs liverpool (jota vs tsion) the next defender was around, Colwill. for me, look where the ball was played. the jota ball was close to both of them. the Saliba one was on the attacker side and the attacker was in a great position to go 1v1 given Saliba was nowhere near the ball. plus it was close to the goal technically speaking. as LFC fan i was furious at the ref, but it was the right call. the major decisions ( sancho penalty, the overturned ones) were correct in that game. it just the 50/50 ones the ref got wrong. the salah pen call is actually a bad referring
@davecrawley4634Ай бұрын
Ben White was 29 yards away. Colwill was 5 yards away. The ball was on the halfway line against Chelsea, was 10 yards further against Bournemouth. The ball was heading to the corner flag v Chelsea. Heading to goal v Bournemouth

Considering how bad the refereeing was, big win for liverpool, really showed character despite having to deal with those poor decisions.
@onlythetruthformeandyouАй бұрын
Slot probably knew Chelsea had much more pace, so he sat back and narrow and invited Chelsea in and hit it long, which troubled their backline alot. Hence, it looks like Chelsea dominated, but Liverpool ended with more critical chances.

By any chance Adam is it possible to show average position maps when teams are in possession and when they're out of possession? The overall average position map doesn't properly show players that play completely different positions in defence and attack

Any chance of covering Raphinha and how he's evolved from Leeds to scoring a hat trick against Bayern?
