Essendon 21-15 (141) [Goals: Lucas 6, Lloyd 5, Caracella 2, Hird 2, Mark Johnson, Moorcroft, Mercuri, Jason Johnson, Blumfeld, Misiti] defeated Collingwood 15-10 (100) [Goals: Buckley 4, Brown 2, Ukovic 2, Williams 2, Tarrant 2, Saverio Rocca, Lockyer, Betheras] I knew the script that this stage: Collingwood began 5-0 but never looked like they would threaten Essendon. It is still true that no other team kicked so many points against the Bombers in 2000.

That mark at 2:40: from Moorcroft is a lot like his MOTY in 01' except he wasn't 10 feet in the air.

up until 3 qtr time they were still only 3 goals down i think as well. Played above themselves for most of the game until the bombers flicked the switch and creamed them in the last qtr.

Nice 1990 Premiership style jerseys for Collingwood i.e. black stripes on white background, while they're struggling after winning the previous year's wooden spoon. In 2001, they began wearing the current design of white stripes on black, and played well only to end up finishing 9th and missing out their finals. This was the beginning of resurgence as the precursor to 2002 and 2003 Grand Finals, both lost to the Brisbane Lions. Collingwood wouldn't win a flag until 2010.

As a pies supporter…had this bombers team stuck together they’d won 3. They’d even beat todays teams.

As an admittedly biased Essendon I agree we were probably the greatest single season team in history. But we should have one at least one more if not two more flags in that era, so from that perspective we definitely underachieved.
