I think Zotero is better than Mendeley. Word is very good for writing small and large documents, like the thesis. I prefer it over LaTex because you can arrange your figures well in pptx, and then just place it into word. Word also has great header/sub-header features with zotero plug-in and grammarly on the side to quick-check grammar as you write. FIJI is amazing! We agree on this 100%!

I would highly recommend Zotero. You can manage all your bibliography and has plug-ins for Word, Libre Office, Mac and even Latex. For Data Analysis you could use R or Python (Pandas). Hope it helps :)
