I bought my 2018 Taurus 3 years ago when they had several thousand in rebates and the dealer was offering another $2500 off. I bought a car with a sticker of $28k for $20k. Ford was discontinuing the model and it was near the end of the model year. Everybody is buying SUVs, so I bought a Sedan. When you buy something that is out of favor you can save.

Good day, I watch your channel from time to time, learned a lot. Question for you, I went to a dealer to purchase a used 2019 Ram Limited with 15530 miles, yes 15530. The KBB low price is $39,443, to which I added $1850, I was thanked, the dealer only wanted full price PLUS a mileage adjustment fee of $9450, wow. My credit union estimated $4590 for mileage adjustment, I walked away. No hurt feelings. thank you guys. Keep educating us.

So glad to have you and your info. Must watch the vids here if you are going to buy. We decide on a car. Kia. Shopping around, we had Nissan tell us we had to fork over id, show work history, wanted to know drivers, on and on. When threatening to leave I end up with sales manager telling me the same. If we don't show them we can afford we were not going to get a test drive. I just packed up and said we would go somewhere else. He was pissed. We did shop. Where we purchased. They let us test drive without a tail. No license shown. No info besides who we were. When looking the online price was cheaper and when we asked they lowered the price. They worked with final price not payment. Worked with one guy from looking to sell and he even filled out our paperwork. No manager, no finance person. We were shocked. And the internet was open and free to use. They let us leave twice. Once for lunch and again after we worked on the price. We took his number and went shopping. He had no problem and he ended up the best deal. Thanks for all the help.

Had a Toyota sales person want me to sign that I would buy at X price. Took out my checkbook signed the check. Put the dealerships name on the pay to the order of line. I said, your turn. Salesperson said I need your signature to show my sales manager that you are serious about buying today. I said, if this blank check is not proof enough I cannot help you any further. I walked out. Next day, they text me. Thousands lower than the "reactionary" price they laid out. Amazing.

I looked on the internet to find a car dealer with a 2022 Toyota Sienna to test drive. I chatted with the internet person who said come on in, for a test drive. I went the next day to Fort Bend Toyota in Sugar Land, TX. They had no Siennas. Their lot is vacant only a few used vehicles. Learning my lesson, I went back to the internet and chatted with another internet person at Sterling McCall Toyota, a much larger dealership, they couldn't tell me if they had a Sienna physically on their lot. I called Gulf Coast Toyota in Lake Jackson, nearer to my house, the internet showed 3 Siennas on site. They had none. I have been watching your videos and am ready to replace my 16 year old Sienna, but it looks like it will not be able to use my amazing negotiation skills yet. Thank you for all your information.

I went in alone as a female to the dealer, I am probably a harder negotiator then my husband anyway. Just put off a purchase of a new lexus because of ridiculous add ons. I went in, by appointment, for the 2023 Rx350h, white, luxury package with panoramic roof as the only other added feature over the luxury package. They knew exactly what I wanted because I done it online and sent my desired car to the online 'team' at the dealership. Cars currently being sent to the lot are loaded with upgrades to stereo, triple headlights, digital rear veiw mirrors all costing $5000+ over what I actually want in my car. Multiple times the salesperson tried to steer me to the 2022 outgoing model even though I said I do not care for the look of the grill and milage is about 10 mpg off from the new model. When he gave me a print out of a car arriving soon there ridiculous add ons. $999 'mandatory ' on all new vehicles nitrogen filled tires, front 2 windows tint and door guards, yes $999! Also prior to coming in I had ran my current car on carvana to sell out right and got an offer of $34,136 which I was happy with (it was higher then what KBB said private sale would be) but the used car manager had told me to bring my car in, they could do better then that and wanted me to give them the opportunity to buy it. When I got there they only offered $30,000 but did go up to $32,000 before turned it down and left. Oh and the salesman told me Multiple times that he is not trying to pressure me into anything, that's not what we do here. Ha, pushing me to the outgoing model and colors other then white over and over, this is why I hate car dealers. I told them I am going to wait until there are more 2023 cars on the lot and that I did not appreciate the lie about my trade. The manager who told me they would give me a better price then Carvana never showed his face even though I called him out by name. My car is in excellent condition, low mileage, no kids and nonsmoker. Why would I give up over 2000 on the sale of my car then pay for $5,000+ in unwanted upgrades in a new vehicle. I am very happy I stumbled onto your videos.

2 reasons to consider purchasing a car that is fairly new: 1) Warranty for 36,000 miles of 3 years. 2) Purchasing an older vehicle with 50,000 miles on it could mean the oil has never been changed, etc. and repairs typically accelerate from 50,000 to 100,000 miles.

I need a car by next week but dealerships around here are being ridiculous. Used cars here are inflated by 30-40%, doc fees are $1000 and they won’t budge on them and most of the cars in my price range are either flawed, dirty, or have been in accidents. I don’t think I’m asking to much to get a clean smoke free car that gets good gas mileage and has a clean title with an out the door price of $15,000 or less. I don’t know what to do. @@tgf5652 define “better”.😝 The answer either way though is yea and no. Did I walk away from bad prices and deals, oh yes! Did I like seeing the look on those stumbling, mumbling salesperson’s faces when I called them out? Absolutely! Not a single one knew what to do when confronted with a person that knew how they played the game. It was beyond their training. But no, it wasn’t a better experience because we spent a full day, a full tank of gas and emotionally and mentally exhausted. I even went to a dealer that my father used to work at, and that was the worst experience of all. That’s the one where the salesman and his GM chased us out the door to our car, begging to fill out an app. After action report: Good: Got to test drive several cars to find the one I wanted. Didn’t get locked into a bad deal. Learned that all this super high intensity training isn’t wasted. They still pull all these tactics to this day. Bad: All that effort and came away empty handed. For the time being anyway. Ugly: Getting chased while trying to leave a dealership is something I never want to relive. And the car? Kia Stinger GT2.

We uploaded an abbreviated outline of the FTC Regs for Dealers like that. You'll find it on our website: thehomeworkguy.com When you present the documents to the dealer, you ask "Have you heard of the FTC?" and then add, "You're behaving just like the dealers the FTC describes in this outline!" You need to also finish with "Take the Fee off or I'll file an FTC complaint." See our video "Lillian defeats a car salesman and a Finance Officer" She executed this strategy perfectly.

If you buy any used car from a car lot that's past it's manufacturer warranty make sure it' has a certified warranty or at least a 30 day 3k warranty.people will trade cars in ,very nice cars or trucks with hidden issues that the dealer will not notice like a pinhole in a head gasket that could take 400 miles of driving to realize it's using coolant.And that's just one of many issues that could take a week or so of driving to catch.And make sure you ask for a car fax on the car your interested in. A lot of used cars on dealer lots are ex rental or off lease vehicles that had a rough life.The dealer will never tell you it was a ex rental or lease they'll tell you it was a one owner vehicle!!!

@KevinHunter2 жыл бұрын
We did a study with a Minnesota dealership. The fee was $75 per customer. One person was able to perform that duty in the dealer over a years time. After subtracting out her wage, the dealer still pocketed an additional $275K on the backs of their customers. There is no situation in any dealer anywhere that justifies a higher fee.

@atharn63243 жыл бұрын
I too have this same question. I’ve tried this on a car deal and you would have thought I was from another planet by their reactions. Can anyone else in the comments validate that they were successful in dropping the dealer doc fee to $75? If so, how’d you approach it and what were some of the excuses the dealer gave you during the negotiation of that?
@arthurl.99853 жыл бұрын
@@atharn6324 I live in Massachusetts and the dealers here all say they have to charge by law everyone the same doc fee. So what I do now I asked what the doc fee is early on and when it's time to talk price I just factor in the overpriced doc fee in the amount I asked off the price. So on the contract I pay the doc fee but make it up on the added discount. It's always still a battle.

@@arthurl.9985 that’s a great idea, thanks for the tip! On the whole, I agree that the dealer fees are overpriced and would love to just pay $75 but based on my experience it seems easier to negotiate the price of the car rather than the fees.

Not just insurance premiums, but if you're a first time buyer or otherwise never had insurance before, your insurance company may require a down payment to get insured. Consider this cost and get quotes before you try to buy a car. This especially important if no insurance company will waive the down payment, and if you have limited down payment funds.
