Actually the last part of your video gave me a lot of hope, I could consider every time I try to handle misbehaviour (and mostly fail) as a learning experience rather than just a failure. Every time that happened I would beat myself up thinking that I'm not cut out for teaching, that I don't have any authority, but I will try to have a more positive attitude and see that as "becoming stronger". I need to keep a positive attitude because the students' misbehaviour makes me feel really sad, I need to cheer myself up.

Definitely! We tend to see ourselves as failures when we don't do well. But instead should focus on the growth we are making as humans and teachers every day. Don't be so hard on yourself, Chiara... you are getting stronger and things will improve!! 🥰

Thank you so much! I've been a teacher for a few months. Sometimes I have a really hard time. especially when there are students who are testing my authority in the classroom. Instead of punishing, I try to support positive behaviors. but sometimes i have a hard time, like today. Now I started to watch of your videos about classroom management. I love my students and want to do what is best for them. this can be an extra stress factor from time to time. It's nice to know I'm not alone. The last part of the video encouraged me again.

The attitude I have always been lacking of... That's why for many years I didn't want to become a teacher even after receiving my honors degree in education. Now things turned out that I have to start teaching anyway. But I hope with your tips that might be not that frightening and miserable as I've always imagined))

I have problem with No No No No student. The moment I called headteacher because of his louder voice distract the other students learning time as well as wasting their valuable time. I really don't know how to deal with the student doesn't have patience. help me for this
@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
At the start of class explain that loud students are disruptive and class cannot proceed smoothly. Make the class agree. Then when the student is too loud, warn them about the rule and lecture them that it is bothering everyone. Loud students do it for attention, so don't get into an argument with them during class. Calmly ask them to see you after class or a time that suits you. Tell them 1on1 that their behavior is wrong and needs to change. Do not give them an audience. Do this for 2 or 3 classes. If it continues then you involve the head teacher and take it from there.

@@kenulrh I shot a video for exactly that situation. It will only come out in 3 weeks though :( You'll need to be more strict with them and set ground rules. If they don't comply restart the class. Call out the troublemakers to see you one by one at other times alone. Lecture them without an audience. I know it is very difficult but keep at it!

Just found your site. I've worked with a class this year that has had 2 subs. They are out of control for all the teachers with their behavior. LIke you said, though, I never had someone come in and calm them down. I just vowed to try another strategy. At first I tried discipline: lunch detention, but the parents of 2 students came down to the school and told the administrator that I can't do that because they are entitled to 30 minutes lunch. So that ended that consequence because administration said I couldn't give them. I tried calling and texting parents because they won't answer the phone and the parents came into the school and demanded that I have an immmediate conference with them because of the text that they don't want to receive. As a result I was told by administration that I shouldn't text or call them. Administration said to send home a behavior report for those students I was calling instead and they would send a robo call to those I listed. A parent said they never received a robo call and that I can't expect thier 11 year old son to be responsible enouch to bring home a letter to them and that they should be called (but that same parent complained that they don't want to be called at work!) and that they told thier child that they can leave the classroom anytime they want if they have to use the bathroom so they won't have an accident and be embarrassed even though the school sentry said that if they have 2 breaks a day they can't go. I mailed the reports as well as giving them to the child to bring home and one child said their mother never opens any mail from the school. It seems that I can't issue any consequences except to lower their grade and they don't care about what grade they make. Little by little some of the students have stoppped their disruption. The class made and signed a contract to work for but it didn't result in anything except teaching the 4 out of 18 that wanted to learn while the others talked out and screamed and did everything they could to get a rile out of me. I did reward those that were listening with tickets and if they got 5 they got a treat, but that faded soon like you said. I first tried the "look" until they looked away and they said, "What are you looking at me for?" I didn't engage but just kept looking at them and they eventually stopped. I'd go and stand by the student if they didn't stop and then walk away after they got quiet. Others, I called the parents and they came in as a surprise visit and the next weeks they were as good as gold. However, there are so many that are yelling and talking during the instruction that I resorted to taking a half day sick day until the end of the year. Next year I am for sure going to start out with the hand signal and a class contract and review the rules everytime they need them. FYI: I teach urban students who don't have discipline at home so even the students who physically abuse other students do not receive any consequences. Any further suggestions? Like Winston Churchill said, "Never never never give up" and I never do! I need new strategies that I can enforce in my classroom. I only have them for 30 minutes once a week.
@dianehamilton5072
@dianehamilton5072 Жыл бұрын
PS: I never never yelled at the students even one time. I think that's why they keep trying to get me to do it. I just stop in the middle of my sentence and start taking notes of which students are misbehaving and what they are saying and doing.
