I love the in depth description of each software but would recommend inserting a short clip of visuals

Wow, Chris! I was searching for AutoCAD tutorials to use in a Permaculture project and stumbled upon this video, began watching and realized 'oh wow! I went to school with that guy!' Hope all is well - thank you for your channel and educational contributions!

Hi Chris, great way of describing what are essentially visual products, and i think you are on-point with a lot of what you have said. I am surprised you are not aware of LANDWorksCAD though as this is very similar in capability to Vectorworks and AutoCAD combined but much easier to learn and totally focussed on landscape professionals needs. I am completely biased though as my company, CAD International developed LANDWorksCAD :). We are based in the Australia (downunder) and are officially about to launch the software into the US.

Excellent great list, thanks! I would like to add the information, that there are alternatives to Autocad, that will do the same (even use the same DWG Format) for a considerable less amount of money, in case anyone wants to go that route. Examples are: Draftsight, Bricscad, CorelCad, Highdesign. Some of this are even very similar in use to Autocad because they are trying to get the clients that can't pay Autocad but are already familiarize to the software. And for Photoshop there is Affinity Photo as an alternative, a lot cheaper.

Good summary. I am learning Vectorworks right now as part of a garden design course. Recently I found these CAD software programs (I have no experience with them but I think it is worth mentioning.): - idea Spectrum Realtime Landscaping Architect - Blender

I’ve been using Idea Spectrum since 2010, easy to use especially the “photo”.👍😊

Consider adding Simplyscapes to the list. It's web-based and will work on pretty much any device.

No, thanks. The first attemp - and it gives me "Oops. Something went wrong." The second attemp - it wants my address. Are you kidding me?
@simplyscapes2 жыл бұрын
@@kozavr Thanks for the honest feedback! Simplyscapes has an Aerial Designer and a Photo Designer. The Aerial Designer uses Google Maps and currently requires an address to locate the property. The Photo Designer doesn't require an address...just a photo. This tool allows you to design a small area by dragging transparent plant images onto your photo. Note that all of this is very new. For example, we just released the photo designer this week. Expect to encounter issues along the way. Our goal is to be the "Canva" of landscape design software.

Wow! This was very enlightening. I have started a Landscape Design Business and I am starting with residential and container gardening for some commercial businesses. Currently, I have certified federally and will be seeking contracts within the Federal Government. Would you recommend Pro Landscape as a software feasible for both projects?

Given the move towards BIM I'm hearing autocad in being left in the shadow of Revit (Or maybe vectorworks), with many painting it as the future of construction. With that in mind , how do you think someone looking to learn about freelancing in landscape architecture 3d visualization, should focus their software study efforts? Revit and Lumion? Is there a better plugin for 3d plants?

I have used Chief Architect for quick studies of home designs or alterations, exported to Sketchup for placing property lines, landscaping features, then imported all of that into Twinmotion or Lumion, it is a pretty good pipeline but can be overkill just depends on what you are trying to do in what time frame. Revit is powerful and will save you loads of time compared to Autocad for doing architecture, but I am finding that it lacks tremendously in libraries (something Autodesk applications tend to do) whereas Chief Architect is full of great assets from the get go and extremely easy to use, even has ray traced rendering. No single software seems to have everything I am looking for yet :) Good luck

Hello. Loved your walkthrough of different software. I am looking to do my backyard. I want to bring my vision a to life using software. I am not a designer or landscaper. I have used photoshop before and I feel I can catch on pretty easy. I just want something I can put on paper and submit to my HOA. Which one would you recommend?
@m.e.morales95654 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend Pro Landscape. I stareted designing a couple of months ago and have found myself in need of using a more professional software. Pro Landscape would be the best one for you. Hope this helps.

I am not a professional landscaper. However, we just bought a house and I'd like to build it into 3D design software to plan changes, etc. Which would you recommend for a (non-professional) home owner? Thanks
@ARQUIVAS Жыл бұрын
There is one software called home designer, from the chief architect company. It's specially aim at DIY. It's relatively easy to use, and you can cover all aspect of your house remodeling (interior, lanscape, lighting, kitchen bathroom, etc). I like that software, I'm about to start my Landscape design business soon, and I'm going to start with that one, (the pro version). And it has a good price.

It's a good program - steep learning curve. But if you learn it and it is affordable for your business, then I would say go for it.
