a tip you might want to tape your battery contact up so they don't short out in the plastic bag, in addition take the batteries out of any flashlights and saran wrap them around the flashlight(It'll prevent the batteries from discharging, leaking, corroding the flashlight due to lack of preventative maintenence.) and make a list of everything in your pack with pack date and dates to rotate or check as many people are lazy and don't bother paying any attention to how old things are.

It's so cool to see bugout bag videos where people are finally acknowledging that's there's never just one solution to a problem. And survival kits need to be custom taylored to an individual's strengths, weaknesses, environment, predicament, etc. Dude that radio looked pretty friggin sweet! :D Could you do a short video on it? Or at least tell us the make/model so we can check it out? Assuming it has a usb out to recharge devices (like the eton microlinkfr160?). *Si vis pacem, para bellum!*

A Sawyer water filter system takes up way less room and gives you 1 Million Gallons of clean water. Leather gloves are better than any of those with nylon or rubber, especially when dealing with fire. I carry a NOAA Weather radio, but I think you need to be licensed by the FCC to use a HAM Radio. A scanner would be a good thing to have though. Good luck getting all that (esp. the firearm) into a Red Cross Camp. You would be better off out on your own with all this gear. Personally I would rather go on my own if possible and would avoid any sort of R-C / FEMA type stations unless I was in dire need of medical attention. The biggest thing you forgot to mention is to have a PLAN that everyone you want with you knows and to train with them in actually using (gear) and the mental preparedness that it will take to live in a bug out situation. Good Luck and Godspeed, - danofiremano

I really like that you're not suggesting an 80 liter bag with 50+ pounds of gear! I see it way too often in these BoB suggestions. On the topic of weight ... by going with something more civilian oriented you can save a lot of weight. Most military style bags like what you're showing weigh 5+ pounds empty. Many backpacks specifically used for hiking outdoors for days at a time with everything you need on your back (sounds like bugging out, right?) will weigh much, much less. In fact, a simple Kelty Redwing 50 is a larger pack (not that the size is needed) and it weighs about 3 pounds empty. That may not seem like much, but it reduces the overall carry capacity you're talking about by about 10%. Molle webbing looks neat, but it's heavy, especially if you're carrying a bunch of individual pieces of gear that each have it.
@ejectedcasings73026 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think it's a matter of preference. Some people feel like the quality of a military pack might be higher than that of a "civilian" pack.

There is a RINO GPS radio that has a nice feature, you can see the location of others using the same radio. Makes for a good system to link up if lost or separated. I also like a small set of binoculars for reconnaissance of danger areas or choke points or to evaluate others you may come into contact with. So far you have covered all but toilet paper and a trowel or small shovel for sanitation concerns. I am going to get a fish scale to weigh in my items and see where I stand. OK, of you have to BO , you will NOT BO to the wilderness. You will BO to a hotel, to a shelter or to friends or family or wherever the govt tells you to go. You don't want tactical gear, you want to look, "gray" , so a suitcase, with a handle and wheels would be better. See my "Prepper Rant" video.
@livingsurvival9 жыл бұрын
cchgn I disagree. I want to look tactical. IMO people are less likely to mess with someone that obviously has guns loaded. Just make sure you know how to use. Also, if SHTF or natural disaster like flood or tornado or earthquake you aren't going to be going to a hotel or friends house for a few days most likely. Thanks for the comment.
@cchgn9 жыл бұрын
Living Survival Maybe in your video game mind, but in the REAL world, folks see you walking around for no apparent reason, in tactical gear and may have weapons, they will snipe you and take your gear, if the cops or NG don't pick you up first.. Btw, I've been in several direct hit hurricanes and earthquakes and wild fires and tornado and never had to BO anywhere, especially on foot and to the wilderness. IN ANY of that, that is the WORST time to be outdoors. That's a stupid idea. I'm saying that surviving is the ability to make ALL the RIGHT decisions, ALL THE TIME. I'm saying that planning to BO to the wilderness is a BAD DECISION I'm saying that NO ONE will ever have to BO on foot to the wilderness and try to survive for a few days.. I'm saying that even if you DID have to go somewhere, you don't want to be "tactical guy". You want to be the "grey man". IMO, the urge to want to look "tactical" to make an impression is making up for insecure short comings. If you're secure in yourself, you won't feel the need to "standout". I'm saying that in NOLA in Katrina, folks were bussed to hotels, in other cities. Those that stayed, stayed at home or in FEMA trailers. RIGHT NOW, in WV, at that train derailment, folks evacuated to hotels and family, etc. NONE had to BO to the woods. The authorities wouldn't even allow it. Up North , tens of thousands without power and the Mayor has issued a stay indoors order. DO NOT leave your house. BO is not an option,. The authorities wouldn't even allow it.
@livingsurvival9 жыл бұрын
In Katrina people were stranded on their roof tops for days. Those that made it to the stadium were in no better shape and in every situation would have been better off if prepared. I might be sniped if I don't snipe you first. We all prepare differently according to skill set and area. But since you are an expert you should make a video. Also, bugging out can be done anywhere, who said anything about it being the woods.

Living Survival Not days, hours. I went there. I work with glass. I replaced alot of it in the Stadium and all over the city .Those close to the stadium went there for shelter,. They did NOT BO on foot. The looting was in a small part of the city, with folks who would loot at the first sign of any trouble anyway, in a high crime area of the city.. I saw folks survive by banding together in apt buildings with boarded up windows and "am armed, will shoot" painted on them. Most stayed where they were until the Govt removed them. The worst enemy of NOLA was mayor Nagan. He's in prison now. The Hurricane didn't do alot of damage there, the Levy breaking did. The hurricane damage was in Biloxi and Gulfport, Ms. I went there too. Those folks didn't loot. No one even thought of BO on foot. Many weren't able to anyway. trees were uprooted and dropped on houses 500 yds away. Barges were inland a half a mile, n top of houses and in tthe top of trees. Most didn't want to leave their homes, even tho many didn't have roofs or windows. They got FEMA trailers in their driveways. There was acres of FEMA trailers. Church was held in the yard where the church used to be. Neighbors helped each other. That is reality.

Items people overlook: 1. Zip ties 2. Caffine pills 3. Birthday candels 4. Nails 5. Trash bags 6. Ziploc bags 7. Small fishing kit 8. Soap/Germ-X 9. Playing cards 10. Signalling Mirrors Bonus: Candy Candy is a great Moral booster and can provide you with needed energy and with some candies like suckers you can use the sticks to start fires.

Why are so many prepers all chubs. The number one prep is physical fitness no mater how kick ass your pack is

I totally agree with you, an overweight guy would burn more calories , get exhausted faster, and be much slower than a fit guy

in fact if you want to be a "survivor" you have to train your body or after 20 miles with a huge bag on the back you will die!! so i totally agree with you!

Don't ever let other peoples appearances fool you. I have seen some heavier people in the army who can do a lot more than skinnier ppl. I'm not arguing with you just warning you from experience. :)

Another Great video man! Your review on the fieldline alpha ops Daypack I liked too. Convinced me to order one. I'm very new to this and on a tight budget so every little bit helps, all your detailed information helps! Subscribed! If you got any products you're never going to use or not using anymore, you're looking to get rid of, let me know maybe we could work something out. Thanks again.

Looks better than most. I would add salt some spices. Try eating a chipmonk or squirrel or jack rabbit it ain't gonna be good. Small packages of soy sauce would be good. The best sleeping pad you can afford. Mechanics gloves. The best food for bug out bag is rice. A sock filled with rice will last a long time

i loved almost everything that you presented. The only problem i saw is that you don't show how to get all that stuff in the bag you showed. Maybe it will but showing it fully packed with the things you show would be nice. Very thorough

Tent as a BoB option: I agree with you that tents are often heavy, and per dollar spent you can get higher quality non tent options for less than a lot of decent tent options. That being said, there are some FANTASTIC tents out there. I recently did a backpack trip with a group and the tent of choice for everyone was the Big Agnes Fly Creek Ultraight 1. It's a 1 person tent with a 33oz total weight. It maintains 22 square feet of floor space and a little over 5 feet of vestibule room. Depending on where you are, it sure can be nice to keep the critters out.

+zero11010 If I was going to go with something for 1 person i would just go with an ultra light hooped bivy.

Living Survival I like the concept of these a lot! But I've never seen anyone bring one on a trail. It makes me a little wary. There are a couple of models I've got an eye on for personal use. In an emergency my bag can be stretched to accommodate two people, and that would be a little harder with robust bivies.

One of the best bug out bag videos I've seen, simply because you show a variety of gear and options for every part of the kit. You happen to have a list of everything in the video?

Hey man, I think you should also think about carrying a pack of zip ties/cable ties. Very multi useful. I just bought me a few packs from the 99 cents store. Works just the same. In fact you'd be surprised how many useful items you can find by just checking out the 99 cent store
