1:16 Can 저기요 be used outside of a shop/restaurant? What would you use to get someone's attention out on the street? 2:18 What's the difference between 이게 뭐예요 and 이거 뭐예요? Don't both mean "What is this"?

it's actually 맞나요, and you pronounce the "ㅈ" like a quiet "t" sound because it is at the end of "맞"

For the kpop event, I would like to say that Im glad I got a chance to know BTS, they are the only one who inspired me to learn Korean language and know more about Korean culture, I really wish to visit Seoul one day and attend their concert there, but I've set a goal that first I'll try to become fluent in Korean and then I'll visit Seoul, and in this journey TTMIK is helping me a lot! 😊

안녕하세요 TTMIK, I just had a question about something I have noticed about pronunciation. Why is it that when something like " 있었어" is said, it sounds like "이써써"? I have noticed that if words at the end have an ㅆ at the bottom, it either changes into a "t" sound if there is no ㅇ after in the next syllable. However, when there is a ㅆ at the end of a syllable block and a ㅇin the next syllable block, it sounds like it is being carried over. Why is that? 감사합니다!

Keiko Kamal Keiko Kamal If you don’t mind, I’ll give an answer for you. If ㅇ is the first syllable, it means nothing but a filler for a vowel (ex. ㅏ -> ㅇ+ㅏ = 아). So when you read ‘있었어’, the bottom syllable ㅆ do the job instead of the ㅇ. You just pronounce ‘이써써’, it’s easier to pronounce. Hope this is helpful to you.

@@fangssoo Ah, I see. That makes more sense. So does it matter what is at the bottom syllable, or vowel is before the ㅇ? For example, would having 톤이 also have the ㄴ carried over? 감사합니다!

Keiko Kamal yes! It doesn’t matter what the bottom syllable is. Always same rules for any bottom consonant before ㅇ+vowels, so ‘톤이’ -> [토니]. Good luck with your Korean study! 🤗

요 is a polite ending to sentences. It's extremely common.
