If you're not sure when to use の願いします (onigaishimasu) or ください (kudasai), の願いします is most typically used when asking for something that is likely to be more involved for the listener to do. It's typically translated as "Please do for me". ください is usually for simpler things the speaker wants to get. It is translated as "please give me".

I travelled to Japan last year and I was able to use what I learned from your videos to speak a very limited amount of Japanese to various locals and while I'm sure my pronunciation was far from perfect, they all seemed very appreciative of my effort to use their language and it made for a much richer and enjoyable experience for me. So arigatou gozaimas sensei!

Hello Ninja Sensei, I have a question. I visited Japan last year - during my trip, I once used "Mada desu" when a waitress approached and asked if I was ready to order. After I said this, she seemed to either not fully understand what I had said - or I thought I might have accidentally been rude somehow... I didn't feel like I could really understand her reaction (maybe because I thought I knew what I was saying), but I think she seemed a little taken aback or something. Do you think there could have been a misunderstanding? Thank you --
@Ninjapanese8 ай бұрын
Hmm there is no similar words to ‘Mada desu’ so I think she understood what you said …🤔 Maybe … she got confused because you spoke perfect Japanese 😎🌸?? Anyway, I’m so happy you did try to use what you have learned 🥰 Please try next time again !! 🇯🇵 That was just a rare case and I’m sure waitress will understand your Japanese next time!! ☺️🙌🙌🙌
