In the early 1980s, the X-Men have grown into Marvel's best sellers, and pressure increased for a second series starring the team. Writer Chris Claremont offered a different option, in the form of a new mutant team of younger teens, more similar to the original X-Men. The result was the New Mutants. As time went on, the series was rebranded as X-Force and made into an example of the worst that 90s comics had to offer. This too changed, and the series gave way to X-Statix, to a new black-ops X-Force led by Wolverine, and, perhaps inevitably, to a new New Mutants series again centered on the original team. These are the essential New Mutants/X-Force Comics.
